Life Imitates Art at 'Snakes' Screening
23 August 2006 (WENN)
New Samuel L Jackson film Snakes On A Plane became terrifyingly real for Arizona cinema-goers when pranksters released two live rattlesnakes into the theatre, causing widespread panic. The two young venomous diamondback rattlers were released during a screening in Phoenix on Friday. Local news reports say the snakes caused chaos among the audience and snake wranglers were called in to collect them. No one was injured during the incident and the culprits have not been caught. Officials believe the snakes were smuggled into the theatre in backpacks. According to Phoenix Herpetological Society spokesman Daniel Marchand, "All they've got to do is startle this thing. It's dark. They can't see you that well. If it's scared - boom - it strikes!" The snakes were eventually captured and released into the Arizona desert.

People are so weird.
So for those of you that don't know, I work for an internet auction website. Online auctioneering brings out the best and worst in people, but most of all, brings all sorts out of the woodwork.
So we get this email bid cancel request from a customer who first claims that she didn't bid on the item. We go into the auction history and find that yes indeed, she bid on the item. A few times. We go back and tell her that we're sorry but we will not honor her request and that all bids are binding contracts and blah-di-blah-blah. We ask her if she might have had someone in her household bid on items and she comes back and says no. We basically tell her, sorry charlie. She writes back again and says, "But I have a staff infection in my eye and did not realize I was bidding on emeralds!" Staff infection - that's genius, what will people think of next? It's like telling a cop that you were speeding because you had explosive diarrhea. So I check her email history and come to find that not only has she used the staff-infection-in-my-eye excuse before, but this health ailment appears to be an ongoing problem that not only impairs her vision, but her better judgment as well. I wish I could be a smartass and write back and tell her that she needs to log off, step away from the computer, and see a doctor immediately as obviously staff infections of the eye cause dimentia. Some people...
