Well the gf was cool with popping in today as we were in London, so we both had a listen.
The Rock Drill is on the 5th floor of the tate and is quite a striking image when first seen. The listening area is towards the back of the sculpture. When listening to the track, you can see the connection with the artwork and lasts around 5 mins 12 secs.
Heres a scan of a postcard my gf brought.........
I was quite excited to here the new track and clearly others were aswell. There was a queue of five people includeing myself. A young couple around the same age as myself were in front of me. Watching there reaction to the track was great, they had a glint in there eyes and smiles signaled a postive reaction to parts of the track. After they had listened and just before I took my tern I asked them what they thought, the guy said 'it was well worth the wait and that it would be great in a club with strobes'.
The track is definatally a tune i could imagine Tom hammering towards of the ends of a dj set. Without a doubt this is a kick ass techno thumper!
The tracks begins with some quiet kinda whispering sounds before kicking into a minimal techno style beat and had some weird robot like noizes throughout, the track then jumps into a great techy baseline. The track overall is dark techno with elements of acid and minimal thrown in.
Personally I think its spot on and shows great potential the future, its a perfect techy tune! However I couldnt imagine it being an ablum track, more of a b side maybe, simular to Swiper maybe, which it reminded me of. Maybe it will become EBW9?
Over the summer at both Fabric and Summercase I dont think this track was played, however I could be wrong. Hopefully we will here this at some future dj dates.
Overall good work Ed and Tom, sounds good for the future.

Torso in Metal from 'The Rock Drill' was originally created by sculptor Jacob Epstein in 1913-14. Initially he placed a plaster version of the sculpture you see here on a top of a pneumatic drill used for drilling into rock. Epstein said he was motivated to create the sculpture because of a love of machinery. At the time, several artists were producing art about what they considered to be symbols of the modern age, like speed, technology and machinery. At one stage, Epstein even considered adding a motor to make the drill move.
After the destruction of World War I, Epstein changed the figure dramatically. He stated 'I lost my interest in machinery'. He discarded the drill, cut the figure down to half it's original size and changed its arms. He then cast this new form in bronze. These changes made the figure seem much less powerful and menacing. Instead of celebrating modern life, this more vulnerable version appears more like a victim of the violence of modern life.
