I think the most hilarious moment I've had in recent memory when it comes to the lameness that is Amercan mainstream music tastes was when I was in The Wherehouse (now bankrupt) and I came across DJ Shadow in the "Dance" section.

What I don't understand is why people here in the States can't comprehend listening to electronic music outside of a "dance" setting, and only being able to categorize electronic music as "dance." If the only logical reason for categorizing electronic music as dance music was that you could dance while you listened to it, then why is R&B/hip-hop not dance?

Fuck American mainstream.

I really hate it, especially since I live in the south. I try to play some stuff at work every once in awhile, but rarely am I ever successful and most of the time it get "WTF is this?" from about half the people. Some can't even stand it and they turn it back to the country station x|

I think the only thing I've played that they liked was Air's "Playground Love".

Which brings me to another point. Air should not be put under dance, but yet they are in many places without an Electronic section...

Exactly. I think that the Chems, Daft Punk, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Underworld, Groove Armada, etc. should all do huge US tours at the same time, and maybe, just maybe, they could educate us yanks and reverse this endless popularity cycle thats been going on for years here.

(This is why I'm hot, This is why I'm hot, This is why this is why *blows out brains*)

Fuck

Dream On.

Sometimes is better this way, I feel somehow that you are not part of a giant radio mass.

I am American. I love the Chemical Brothers and electronic music, and I am in the minority.

I am American. I think for myself in all areas in addition to music. Sadly, I am still in the minority.

I despise the stereotyping, but time after time the majority of the American populace just doesn't get it. The people over here seem to be very narrow minded in most areas, ranging from entertainment to politics and everything in-between. There are many great things about living in America; the general mentality is not one of them.

Broadcast radio plays absolute garbage and the people eat it up, sacrificing creativity and diversity along the way.

It's not ALL of us...but it is at least 51%, probably more. Just keep in mind that the yanks that come here do want to be part of something bigger.

I'm glad they're not huge in America, it allows me to remain a pretentious music snob.

If everyone liked it, I would hate it.

If the Brothers were too big, they'd get all rock star ego and lose touch with their roots.

Hear that Ed? We don't think you should have an Aston Martin, cuz the your music might suffer... istead, you gotta suffer for your art!

I'll admit, I do like having my own personal outlet in the Chemical Brothers.

Besides, mainstream success and artistic genius rarely go hand in hand. I'm glad they are lucky enough to get recognized in other parts of the world.

However, I wish they were big enough over here to warrant a proper tour. What's up with those U.S. dates, anyway?

I'm nervous about the US dates... I heard september, but their calendar shows them all over the former Warsaw Pact area in september.

Any chance someone like LCD Soundsystem might make people in the States a bit more receptive?Or are they actually bigger here in Europe. On second thoughts their new album contains the track North American Scum, which will probably only piss more people off.

Look at the amount of exposure they get thro TV adverts and soundtracks to sports progs etc, this is maybe UK only but half the nation are tapping their feet to 'shake Break bounce' on yon advert.

People know their toons before they know their name and it's no a bad thing.

I reckon the lads are very highly played in the media considering their genre (y)

LCD Soundsytem would have to stop sucking before they could influence anyone to do anything.
