Watching an old episode of Teachers (brilliant show btw). Song comes on and I'm all like "Hang on a tick! I recognize that sound!". Take a few minutes singing it in my head and remember Dissolve. Do some searching and find this (0:00 - 0:15 and repeated throughout after the chorus):

Freeheat - The Two of Us

Now am I crazy? Could this be sampled in Dissolve? Is it just an influence? Am I just hearing things again?

It's not listed in the album credits.

Hm. Good ears. But I tend to believe this is rather an influence than a sample. Dissolve doesn't feature the crush cymbal the original has on each first note.
E(argasm) = m(usic) x c(hemicals)²

it is not that difficult to get rid of the cymbal with an low pass filter. Sounds very much like Dissolve! great find man!

Tom does play the guitar, right? Perhaps he just replayed the shit on his own?

listenign I really think it's a sample, exact same rhythm and pitch, just filtered heavily

Izotope RX would be the way to go. Check a few videos, that's an impressive tool.

I don't think it's a sample. The melody is the same in disslove, but it's played with a bass and a lead synth on top of it.

It does sound so similar, but my ears are certainly no authority on such matters...

I would think if it was a sample then it would have been credited, much like that bit used for Another World. But who knows?

Nevertheless, riddles like this are fun to ponder. And that was a great find, Ryno!
