Short into view with Zane

Stole this interesting video found by Kermit and gave it an own topic. Some interesting things are said in this 2 minute video. Here are some of my thoughts about it.

1. The contract obligations have ended at Virgin/Emi/Parlophone if I understand correctly. The Brothers already release there music at there own label Freestyle Dust and distribute it through Virgin/Emi/Parlophone. Could the 12"limited release of Escape Velocity, the download only Swoon and the no leaks of Further be a hint of how they will release new music in the future?

2. Toms Hell yeah answer to Zanes question if there will be a new album soon indicates there are left-overs from the Further recordings. Which isn't strange considering the time between WATN and Further resulted into 7 new tracks on Further, Wonders of the Deep being 5 years old. Might there be an Chemical Brothers Amnesiac to there Further Kid A?

3. As for producing and remixing. I think remixing will be an ocasionaly thing for Tom & Ed. Maybe just for friends (Noel) or interresting tracks (I thought Slow was interresting in the positive way). No I think producing will be a bussiness Tom & Ed will follow after/into the next album. They did a great job for Beth Orton (Daybreaker) and New Order (Here to stay). And what about all the rumours about producing the Klaxons and MGMT? I can see an fully produced album by the Brothers for Willy Mason, Lightspeed Champion and all mentioned above as well as co-producing the new Late of the pier album with Erol Alkan.

in response to point 3, they mixed that Charlatans album, and i have to say it wasn't that great (don't know how involvement they really had)

So what kind of flexibility is Tom speaking of when talking about the record contract?

Ok, I'll play your speculation game.

Referring to point 1:

I'm confused. Is Further their last album under contract, or is it their first album outside of their contract? I understand we are lead to believe its outside of their contract because of the none physical single of Swoon, the high demand vinyl release of Escape Velocity, and the all together new approach for Further (no guests and from what I understand is themed). But when mentioned in the interview, Tom seems to answer as if Further is their last album under contract. And if thats the case, a question arises...

Is touring part of that contract? I'm curious if their gigs are partially funded by the record label or where they all self funded (really not sure how this goes in the music world.) Cause if its the former, might we see even less of world touring for the future? I remember Tom mentioning in another interview before they played New York in 2007, and he said they make no money touring America, and playing too many gigs would leave them penniless. So this could be of concern at least for the people on the other side of the pond.

Thank you jebus for music festivals and their continued interest with booking the Chems.

Anyway...Love hearing Tom being positive about another album!

:geek:

Is it an internet leak or is it a cd promo what is floating around?

It's not a leak if it's not readily downloadable, despite some raging forumites harassment :p

A person, who is working for a music website, received the tracks in advance, and gave a copy of them to Ben_J. So, in a certain way, it's a leak, but limited to Ben_J.

Maboul... call me cautious - I know you don't mean any harm but I feel you should be very careful about accusing anyone of leaking material.

I don't accuse ! It just matches the definition of a leak to me. But I don't judge.

Anyway, I think I don't have to mention the fact that, like a lot of people here, I'm jealous and I'd like to burn Ben_J alive !

Just checked this out. I like the on-the-street feel of this little interview, very nice. Tom really isn't much of a poker face is he? hehehe.

Tom mentioned flexibility with how the music is released and I think at this point in their careers, this must be a huge freedom for them. It shows. They seem really, really excited, easy going, relaxed and playful, even. The glint behind the shades was there. I realize this is a tiny snippet and a very short, informal interview. But I don't recall Push The Button and We Are The Night promo interviews being as relaxed or conjuring up near as many giggles. Those older interviews struck me as being a bit on the serious side. Anyway - just observations rather than speculations. I don't want to project on their careers or anything. I just hope they keep on doing what they do, if it makes them happy!

Even 100m away from my window you'd hear the album. I think my whole neighbourhood heard it ten times now.

Spot on Whirly, I agree, their is a different air about this album, also, I hope that this is now a new chapter for Tom and Ed, look at Prodigy for example - Liam's 'Take Me To The Hospital' label, it has enabled them/Liam more freedom leading to a stupendous return to form in 2009, and all the pressure that Liam Howlett admitted to whilst trying to record a follow up to FOTL, the lack of motivation, the demand to make another FOTL, fuck that!!...I to like Tom's enthusiasm to keep making records, and probably would agree that they have a few more things up there sleeves for the next year or 2 to maybe surprise us all!

Sorry for the Prodgy hijack/take over...just an example that mainstream labels really do have a demand over the artist thus harbouring their creative juices!
My life is a boat, being blown by you. With nothing ahead, just the deepest blue... To me you're like a setting sun. You rise then you're gone.

Record companies are not making the serious coinage like they did around a decade ago, now the big cheeses are now saying to themselves 'If we can't beat them, join them. Corporate music formula's for that 'instant hit album' is dying, except for the pop music genre of course. So artists now have an advantage of having total creative control not just on smaller labels, but the big labels as well. The only artistic pressure that the artists should put up with is themselves, not their bosses.
