here a post for anyone in britain or europe who uses beatport. since they upgraded thier site to v3 they have cleverly changed the currency you pay for your purchases. this means we will be paying a lot more for the tunes we buy and it aint on. please boycott the site and spread the word

Beatport has increased its prices from around $1.49 to 1.49. Without telling us.

This kind of profiteering is the sort of thing we don't want to see in the dance music industry. How much of the over 80% price increase is going to the producers - the ones who deserve the money?

We're not kids buying the latest chart tune, we're djs and the majority of us get very little back from the industry we work hard for. Why should a faceless corporation like Beatport be the ones to profit from our dedication?

Boycott Beatport. Until we get a valid and reasonable explanation for an over 80% price increase, there's no reason your hard earned cash should go to a company who are making as much profit as they can from you.

There are plenty of other sites out there (listed below) to buy dance music mp3s from, so please use these instead.

djdownload.com

traxsource.com

trackitdown.net

Email response from Beatport:

Beatport appreciates your continued support and value each and every one of you who have helped make us the leading premium format download store in the electronic music industry. We wanted to take the time to inform you about the price changes effective with the launch of Beatport 3.0. Beatport has steadily extended our reach beyond the US market and we have established a remarkably broad global footprint. With this expansion, we have recognized a need to accommodate international currencies. We must make every effort to strike a balance between the needs of our international label partners, particularly those in the UK and Europe where the majority of our content comes from, and the interests of our customers.

Beatport prices have been adjusted to reflect competitive industry pricing in two of our major territories, the United Kingdom and the European Union. Beatport has neither the highest nor the lowest priced downloads in these territories. We continue to offer the highest quality formats of our industry and we have invested a significant amount of our resources in creating a download store that makes finding the music you love as easy as possible . we have added key features like artist landing pages and My Beatport so you can quickly find your favorite artists, labels and genres.

Countries within the United Kingdom now have pricing in Pound Sterling:

1. 1.29 - General Content / Back Catalogue

2. 1.49 - New Releases

3. 1.99 - Exclusive/Pre-Release & Classics

Countries within the European Union now have pricing presented in Euros:

1. .1.49 - General Content / Back Catalogue

2. .1.99 - New Releases

3. .2.49 - Exclusive/Pre-Release & Classics

In addition to these pricing updates, Beatport has also made a major step forward in terms of payment options for our international customers by now accepting Switch, Solo & Maestro cards. We will establish additional localization efforts over the coming quarters that will include language formats as well as additional payment methods that are not credit card based.

In closing, we sincerely hope to maintain each and every one of you as a valued customer. We are committed to maintaining Beatport as the best digital electronic music buying experience in the world.

Thanks,

The Beatport Team

Yeah, I must admit I noticed it, but I won't be boycotting Beatport for that.

1.99 is still cheaper than going out and buying the vinyl, especially if I only happen to like 1 track on the release (which is actually the case, most of the time)

Springing a price jump from dollars to pounds is nutty. That's a lot of compensation beatport is talking about going from $1.49 to 1.49. There have been times when the exchange rate is nearly double since the American dollar is so weak.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

I was just thinking I should register and create a service whereby people tell me the tracks they want, and I download them and send the files. For this service I charge a small fee (much smaller than the ridiculous change they've instituted) over Paypal. Everyone wins.
