Prochem - this is something i have been thinking of also.

And on that matter i have to agree with you because , those are the facts.

U really dont need to ' explain us something ' cause believe it or not , i'm well aware of this.

But the thing is - sometimes u need to make a sacrifice to make something better in the long run. I couldnt care less about artists backing out because it was a stupid idea ,because artists are not necesarily doing the right thing ( ps ; some of the artists are actually performing that you mentioned )

The thing is , everybody is always talking about what a stupid idea it is, but nobody comes up with any alternatives or a better plan. At least something is done , unlike all those people who sit on their asses because they dont have a better idea.

I dont have a better idea.

At least i try to live eco-friendly tho ;-)

I sort of agree with both of you but isnt sittin on my ass not watchin live earth or any tv for that matter today more eco friendly than drivin down to london to watch a crap concert (until the beasties are on!)

Beastie Boys just tore it up in Wembley!

Really enjoyed the last hour or so, Metallica and Spinal Tap followed by the Beasties. Sure they're only playing 3 songs each but they're putting some real effort into it.

Nice.

Sorry Jack, at the time I wrote that the Beasties had just finished, about 9pm GMT. Had to go to work then... Metallica were on aobut 7:30pm and Spinal Tap after them. Kasabian were on about 3:30pm, just before Black Eyed Peas I think...they were class too.

Kasabian was wicked! They milked out LSF with the whole arena singing the famous " lalala "

I went to my bro's place around 8 so i didnt see much after that.

And altho i really do not rate Black Eyed peas , that song specially for Live Earth was really impressive.

I like everything useful to make the people aware of the energetic wastage problems, It's a good point of start, but...

do you know that the global warming is not caused by the CO2 ?

Yes, it's true. CO2 is rather an effect of the warming, not a cause. It's due to the exchange between the sea and the atmosphere.

CO2 is responsible of greenhouse effect for less than 5%. The real responsible of greenhouse effect is the water dissolved in air (umidity).

So, if it's not the CO2 the responsible of the global warming, what is?

The answer, the sun. Scientists have proven that the sunspots influence the climate of the earth, and it's also possible to forecast the wheather by analyzing the sunspots.

http://cse.ssl.berke.../notes/1127.jpg

Global warming, and global cooling happened many times during the earth life, it's cyclic.

For 30 years, from the industrialization era to 70s the global temperature was getting cooler despite of the growing pollution!

Anyway, it's however a good thing to save energy and resources of our planet. ;)

The problem is that the whole climate change issue is far more complex than just "carbon in the atmosphere" or "sunspot activity" or "more humans on the planet" or "toxins in the ocean" or "orbital axis modification" or "tectonic plate movement" ....

THAT'S the problem. People in general like to peg a SINGLE thing, and point at it, saying "THAT'S THE PROBLEM! FIX IT!" when it's actually everything all put together, some of which we don't have control over.

Offcourse its way more complex than that.

But we , humans , play a big role in this problem.

We live on this planet but we mis-abuse it.

The least we can do is to stop poluting our planet.

Awareness is not a bad thing, and music is a very powerful tool to get a message across. A lot of bands and artists like to use their pull to bring more interest in the causes they're championing. Sometimes it's successful, sometimes it's not. It's worth a shot, I say.

The concert for Bangladesh all those years ago didn't solve the world's problems, but it brought awareness to the devastating problems of that region. Live Aid couldn't feed all the starving people in Ethiopia, but it got people involved and motivated Bono to do what he'd doing now. The Amnesty International tour didn't free every political prisoner around the world, but it sure got a lot of people (and yours truly, once upon a time) involved and signed up to do our small part for human rights. Scientific arguments and analysing carbon footprints aside, events like this can spread awareness. I don't think the idea is dumb or a waste of time at all. I just don't see how being aware is a bad thing.

just as you said about Ethiopia Whirly, my favourite moment yesterday was with Chris Rock being interviewed, you'll know what i mean when you hear the line about Live Aid:

http://uk.youtube.co...h?v=71h832vSrTw

for a bit of a back-story to the ricky gervais thing at the start, he was introducing Elton John at a concert last week but Elton wasn't ready to go on so Ricky had to keep the audience(100,000) entertained while they waited - all the time cacking himself....! Do a YouTube, it should be there somewhere as Concert For Diana/Ricky Gervais.

As for the effect that events like this can have, I'm far more consious about what I'm throwing out and wasting today than I was yesterday...

Another classic line: "It's not good weed if you don't choke!"

Thank You America for Chris Rock!!

My 2 cents on this whole money making scam act called "global warming".

I think it's a ridiculous idea to think that you can stop nature with a concert. Raising awareness? It's just a concert, nothing more. Whirly already raised the bangladesh concert. Has it helped any? No. Live aid, has it helped any? No. A few bags of food went to Afrika, and that's it. Even that food probably rotted away in customs because the corrupt officials didn't let it go in without getting paid a shitload of money. A protest song is fine. I even appreciate that, that you are angry with something, or some government, and that you sing about it. Fine. Write about it, fine. But this? This live earth thing? This concert by superstars that have their own private jets? 15 cars? 10 plasma tv's? And THEY want to tell me that I should care about energy efficiency and this "global warming"? Give me a break. Besides, that whole Al Gore movie has been shot down many times already. All he does is make assumptions, and most of those assumptions are all wrong. He didn't become president and now he's trying to become a saint. Well it's not working for me. Didn't you see that picture of him with his 3 huge LCD screens and a huge ass TV set behind his back? That should say it all.
