how so? I didn't say there was anything wrong with metal, did I? I merely described how it sounds to me, and since you recognized the description, I daresay that you know it sounds like that too. :smirk

I may say that aphex twin is the aural equivalent of being dragged backwards through a wall of fishhooks, but that doesn't mean I don't like it.

Besides, there are a few 'metal' bands I like.... Mad Capsule Markets and GWAR come to mind, and ministry, everything from Psalm 69 back...

I work with a lot of kids who are into metal, they play it in the back room constantly. I can tune just about any kind of music out, except for this. For me it is exhausting to listen to, it's very demanding and overbearing on the senses. I know there's good music in just about every genre but I find some of the extreme metal very hard to take in.

I know it's their thing, I can appreciate that some people really dig on it, I've heard some fantastic drumming in the music but it seems as metal and all the subgenres (black metal, death metal, dark metal, metalcore, speed metal, etc) have all passed me by in my old age.

If that makes me narrowminded, then I guess that's what I am...
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Are you familiar with Castratos? The Young males would have their balls removed so their voice would remain the same. This also meant they never stopped growing because the testerone that usually tells your bones when to stop growing isn't present.

Whirly, I think it's quite important in how you hear that type of music. I think if I were to hear it in the background played by some dirty metallers then i'd be annoyed by it to, but, if you were to play it on your own system, at your own level, your rules then it's not as bad.
