Someone from another board introduced me to Musique Concrete, some of the first electronic music from the 1930's from France. (I still haven't heard it so I have no idea what it sounds like, but I think the basics for electronic music were developed during that time) Don't forget about the theremin - which was developed in the USSR around 1917, and influenced the Moog. :)
