And nobody else can really imitate those wiggly sounds they make, from the high pitched to the deep squelchy ones...
Even though all their records differ from each other, there's something "there", a sort of identity or fingerprint, that's unmistakably Chemical. Even people I know who aren't really fans of the Bros can pick up on it.
Maybe they set out to do that in the beginning and it just stuck, or maybe it was purely accidental, but all in all I think it's pretty damn 8) .

the chems are definitely distinct - even when you see them dj you can tell there new tunes that there 'roadtesting' even if you've never heard them before.
i reckon they make proper songs, which stands them out fron the rest of the dance crowd - even the really techno ones have really good structure and arrangement - and of course the sounds they use are very very them.
i think my favoutrite albums surrender, it flows really nicely and has loads of phatness on it, but DYOH is a very clkose second - its a close call.
as much as i love the chems, i really didnt rate come with us. it had really good individual tracks on it, in fact ALL of them individually were cool, but it just didn't flow like an album. whirlygirl mentioned in EPD there was the Song to the Siren/Three Little Birdies Down Beats/ Fuck up Beats /chemical beats segue, in DYOH there was it doesnt matter/dont stop the rock etc etc segue, which worked really nicely, but in come with us apart from africa/galaxybounce/hoops/my elastic eye section it didn't quite flow the same. I know not all the tunes mixed together on previous albums, but they just seemed to flow a lot better. i dunno, maybe they were trying to go for a more mature sound or something, more songy and less techno, but to me it just didnt feel the same. it was still better than 99% of the shit thats out there, but you always hope for something super-special from the chems!! :)
hope the next album's back up to par!! ;) :)

Yeah, I think my main complaint when I first heard Come With Us besides the other nasty nitpicking (I was such a bitch with my first post on that other board :-// ) was the flow of the record. Everything else they've done before was really streamlined, especially Surrender - so I guess I was expecting the same as before. Which was really dumb, I should've known to expect the unexpected, this is the Chemical Brothers we're talking 'bout!!
The thing with Come With Us that I realize now, that despite it not being as streamlined as their previous releases, is that maybe it was intended to flow in that particular jet setting kind of way (hopping from place to place) and we listeners would... go with them... Hey there's a concept!!! But you know, its different and I got to give them credit for taking such a risk like that when they could've ridden off of Surrender by making Surrender.2. The record is still a musical journey as much as the others, it just wasn't presented in the streamlined way we were used to - and that's OK because it really works for those songs on Come With Us, mainly because I feel a lot of the tracks can stand alone. I like to think of that record as a sort of crossroads in their career - one leg in the past and one pointing foward to the future. Come With Us really grew on me very quickly in a good way and I still play it all the time... I don't know how else to describe it, so I hope I made sense.

yeah, i know what you mean, if the songs are strong enough to carry it off then the album should follow suit.
but i still think an album needs to make sense, like a story or something, and it was a bit like they'd put some of the chapters in the wrong place. very good chapters all the same, just ordered a bit wrong - maybe they got mixed up at the printers? ;) :)
maybe we were so used to the format they usually deliver the albums in we kind of expected more of the same, so yeah fair play to them for trying out something new and a bit different.
don't get me wrong, its still a wicked album, and i do love it, i just dont think it stands up as well against there other albums.
apparently the next ones a bit of a return to their roots - more bass and sirens but with their newer song elements as well - I cant wait!!!!! :)
