As you may have noticed, we've had a rash of nasty spam these past few days. If you see a spam topic please do not reply to it. Please report the post or thread instead. And please above all don't click on ANY links that are in these spam posts!
I will be in and out all day today but will get rid of any offensive threads as soon as humanly possible. I will notify the other mod that this is happening and what can we do to stop it.
Thanks all!

Best way to stop the spam is to make new members unavailable to post and create a special sticky thread for new members where they can introduce themselves and be approved by a moderator.

how will they be able to introducing themselves when they are barred from posting? is that technically realisable?

A good non-hassle idea would be to send any first-time posts/threads with a url in them to a moderator instead of posting them on the boards. Spam is all about bringing attention to other websites, so any spam post will have an address in it.
Then the mod would easily be able to block spammers and spam posts, and anyone who wants to join the community wouldn't have to dodge a ton of red tape to get in.

Captain Obvious comes to the rescue!
The introductory thread will be the only one open to all members.
Actually Krispers idea is much better.

Believe me, now with Twitter and Facebook, there is NO CB related news that we won't find out sooner or later.
So the chances of a new member coming in with some huge news that we don't already know are slim to none.

I'm actually for any idea on guarding this place against spam as much as possible.
I have forwarded this thread and Bloke's suggestion onward.
Keep the ideas coming if you got em!
