Saw this on the Prodigy forum, so I thought I bring it here. Both deliver their own daring sounds, but the difference is that DYOH is such an assortment of the blazing psychedelic / breakbeat-audio spectrum, whereas TFOTL is like the hyper-bombastic beat swarm that throws shrapnel on 90's electro/triphop/big beat.

Both impeccable albums. But DYOH rewards much more!

Why "The Fat of the Land"? "Music for the Jilted Generation" is much better.

Anyway, from those two, "Dig you own hole" of course.
It's where my Chems journey started. It's almost 15 years!

↑Nice one.
Anyway I have to agree, as iconic as Fat Of The Land was is the "killer/filler" ratio was way heavier on the "filler" side than Dig Your Own Hole (although in both cases the killer is super killer). Dig Your Own Hole is just a much more consistent album, even if in neither case are they my favorite albums by their respective artists.

Both albums are great, and my favorites by their artists.
I like DYOH better, even if TFOTL has some nice psychedelic parts too.

And by the way, I think The Fat Of The land is better than Music For The Jitled Generation, so what.

DYOH and TFOTL came out in the same year, and they both are one of the best Big-Beat albums ever recorded, that's why it's much more appropriate to compare these two.

Any ways, both albums are great, iconic, genre-defining, but whatever The Fat of the Land does, Dig Your Own Hole does it better.
You want hyper-bombastic beats? Listen to Block Rocking Beats. You want Big-Beat? Listen to Elektrobank.
You want epic blazing, erection provoking tune? Listen to Piku.
You want some nice Psychedelia while masturbating in your moms basement? Listen to TPPR.

^ This.

(And coming from someone who I think is probably the biggest Prodigy fan here. ;) )

Both of these albums were pioneers in their time and place and both have so much to offer. And both have earned their stripes and weathered the years. That says a lot about both albums I think. One could probably approach the comparison medically, dissecting each song individually, breaking down the sum of their parts and drawing well-rounded and well thought out scientific conclusions arguing the merits of why one album is better than the other...

But for me it's a matter of preference. In the end I feel more connected to Dig Your Own Hole than I do Fat Of The Land.

All I can say is that I have far more favorite tracks in DYOH than in TFOTL... Hmm I wonder if they will ever work together again?

Well, The Fat of the Land (along with Faithless's Reverence) is the album that introduced me to electronic music, so it'll always be special for me, but i have to admit that Dig Your Own Hole is better arranged. The songs are a hard punch after another, the most difficult task for me would be to pick one favorite song from that album, it's impossible.
Tom and Ed, along with his majesty Richard D. James, are the best composers ever.

I think considering Prodigy chose a Chemical Brothers remix as their official Prodigy video release for a song off their album, should answer this question.

?

The original video has the original song on it, the guy who uploaded the video just changed the audio to the chemical remix.

not really. you're right the video with the album version was first released, and the chems remix has the same video footage. but it is longer therefore has different scenes in it.

my journey into music started with firestarter and block rockin' beats. both songs had a massive influence on me in terms of music. firestarter could be heard even on our crappy radio station once a week at least (on the charts show) while BRB was only available via MTV for me back then. I neither knew about earlier prodigy nor chems releases but was to find out very soon, buying them all. for years I would say my favourite artists were the chemical brothers and the prodigy (in exactly that order). however, DYOH was always more important to me - I only bought TFOTL on vinyl few years back whereas I had DYOH on vinyl since 1998. dyoh is perfect and the biggest chemical brothers album IMO. TFOTL is brilliant, especially songs I would not really understand at first - narayan, mindfields, diesel power (probably my favourite), serial thrilla... however, fuel my fire is on there which is okay but not amongst my faves. and that is the very weak spot of TFOTL IMO - DYOH ends with TPPR. you cannot imagine a better ending to an album. FMF is just okay.
love is all.

^Amen

BRB and Firestarter were on all the radio stations! It pretty much came down to which band would still be played on the radio after all the singles got played or months after their album release.

My first girlfriend was a big Prodigy fan and we kind of exchanged insults on who was the better band even though we both had their CD's.

Whats about Fatboys "You've come a long way baby"? Isn't it on the list because it was released one year after DYOH or TFOTL?

You really don't like Fuel My Fire? I mean it's no Reel but I don't think it was trying to be. To me that song just perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the album - this weird, atmospheric mix of punk aggressiveness and dance precision. It's actual one of my favorites on the album.
