Jack, unfortunately it is next to impossible for any music retailer to sell any album before official street date here in the US - they could get into a lot of trouble if they did. We Are The Night doesn't drop here til the 17th, so the likelihood of your brother snagging a copy (from a store) before that time isn't likely unless the stores happen to shelve an import... but that wouldn't happen on or before the 30th.

Ooooh two more days of impatient waiting! I'm a little burst generator at the moment(no, i'm not farting right now). The friday's mine! Can't wait for the modern midnight music full of smartness and beauty saturated fine tunes!!! I'll pee my pants right at the cash point!!!

okay my only post for a while on thins so this will be long (possibly)....
finally heard the album, loving, playing it nonstop, big ups to midnight convo and pills wont help, playing it non stop at work (HMV)(when WATN or spiegel plays I usually am in my little acidy bliss as my coworker puts it) and taking every little peace of merchandise home, ordering single and uk import (I think...windsong confusing me) and waiting for my LP of it to come in. Jealous of all you getting to see shows (my emotions REALLY are summed up in my sig).
ok not as long as I thought

>>>Bosco's Review<<<
1. "No Path To Follow":
First time The Chems use an "opener" for an album and the distorted grunting sound makes me think this will be a darker pattern throughout the album. Or so I thought...
6/10

2. "We Are The Night":
Um, revisited sounds from 'Surrender' Circa? Sunshine Underground 2 anybody? Nevermind that, this track is got zing. Too bad the vocal sample gets kinda annoying after awhile. Still a quaility track.
8/10
______________________________________________
3. "All Rights Reversed":
Hey, they this must be that darker image they hinted through the opener! Cool mix of Rock and tasty beats. I don't know why but the song kinda reminds me of "Paint it Black" by The Rolling Stones.
7/10
_______________________________________________
4. "Saturate":
AKA, Electronic Battle Weapon 8, AKA, "The Sizziling Bacon Song". Well I never was a big fan of this one from the beginning. But it has it's moments, and definately is pushing the envelope on being different.
6/10
_______________________________________________
5. "Do It Again":
"Oh my gosh Tom n' Ed what have you done?"
"This song sucks more then a dick sucking pun"
1/10
__________________________________________
6. "Das Spiegal":
Um, Funky! Is that a baby giggle sample? Haha, this song makes no sense at the beginning yet it turns into something beatiful and beautiful. Love it, 2nd best track on the album. Similarities to 'The Go! Team' anyone? Reminds me of the B-side "Spring" as well.
8/10

7. "The Salmon Dance":
It starts promising, but once we hit that first break down and get further into the lyrics, the track loses me. They got a clever loop but they didnt use the most of it, nor did they use the best of Fatlip...
4/10
______________________________________________
8. "Burst Generator":
We have a winN@r! This is what I was looking for! It shines, it dines, and those words rhymes! I just know the live version of this will own. This is the best song off of the last two albums. Only complaint is the mix in with the next song...
10/10
________________________________________________
9. "A Modern Midnight Conversation":
YAWWWWWWWWNNNNN. Ughhhhh, please no more 80's reminders. This song has been done more then once. And way too much cowbell! James Murphy couldn't even handle all that cowbell. And what the fuck happened to the "darker" pattern that was hinted in the “opener” . I can only count 1 dark song so far...
4/10
________________________________________________
10. "Battle Scars":
What do you get when you mash up Damon Albarn, Johnny Cash, and a sprinkle of Interpool. Oh yeah, you get "Battle Scars". I kinda dig this. I like the build, but I wish the instrumental would play a bigger part in this song. Another change of pace from Tom and Ed, but still, not too dark... :?
6/10
______________________________________________
11. "Harpoons":
Not much to say about this one (mostly because it doesn’t last long). It doesn’t pull any significant feeling out of me. Just a bunch of distorted sounds. meh.
2/10
_______________________________________________
12. "The Pills Won't Help You Now":
WARNING- Indie Rock and Electronic music don't mix. I repeat, Indie Rock and Electronic music don’t.......oh wait, that build is kinda nice. But why-o-why is there someone singing on top of a perfectly good, stand alone, instrumental??? GRRRRRRRRR. And yet another, slow paced and non-dark song. Rather disappointed to say the least. But back to the song, it was a valiant effort boys.
5/10

Overall view of the WATN:
Disappointed. I was kinda mislead in the “opening” track along with the title of the album in thinking maybe this album would be darker and harder, and it was just the opposite.I think they collaborated more then they needed to and there was just way too much singing, and not enough instrumental. I tried to stay on the positive side while listening through the album, and there definitely are some good, quality tracks in there. But as a whole, this album is just not for me.
WATN Grade: D
Top 5 tracks:
1. Burst Generator
2. Das Spiegel
3. We Are the Night
4. All Rights Reversed
5. Battle Scars
Album Rank:
1. Come With Us
2. Dig Your Own Hole
3. Exit Planet Dust
4. Push the Button
5. Surrender
6. We Are the Night

I mostly agree with the thought process too, though my fav songs would be different - am not a big fan of Das Spiegel - I still think the title track (tho not as much as it blew me the first few listens), All Rights Reversed, Saturate, Do It Again and Pills'd be my favourite ones. I like Modern Midnight Convo too, because of the drums, but that disco vocals just doesn't work much for me anymore.
I wish it was a more hardhitting chemical album too - something on the lines of Clip Kiss. I like Burst Generator, but not as much as the other epic songs they've done earlier in the same vein.

My least fave track has to be Do It Again.
First i didnt like it at all.
Than it grew on me , big time. Simply because its a really clever song. And because it was new and fresh and something i didnt hear yet from the brothers.
That lasted for about two weeks.
Now , i hardly ever listen to it.
I just find that " oh my god what have i done " bit REALLY annoying
I was at work the other day and we had the radio on , and DIA came on , and i dunno , it was just so annoying in the background!!
But , when i picture it in the album as a whole , it makes sense.
Besides DIA i think WATN is fucking fantastic.
Highlight still is Burst Generator.
I said before " I think this might be their best album yet " and i still feel the same...but....DYOH will ALWAYS be my nr1.
And fair enough Bosco! Too bad youre not that excited about it, but you'll always have youre come with us cd ;-) There's just one thing tho....
There's never enough cowbell !!!! ;-)

I didn't like Do It Again much earlier, but I somehow just can't skip it on the cd. it's so fuckin fresh! :D
it really fuckin stands out on the album, it's got this massive dirty yet slick production. only if i could get hold of a version without the annoying ali's gay, err effeminate vocals. i have somehow got used to them but i still cant get to love the song absolutely for that one small problem.
i think the limelight of the album for me is definitely satufuckinrate. i really wish they did lots of more songs like that. i hope it really does well commercially. if only it'd be put out as a single. an extended much longer version. with a kickass clip kiss 2, b side. :D

I'm going to go against the grain of the majority and just say I appreciate Saturate loads more on this album than I ever did Electronic Battle Weapon 8. EBW8, though I did like it - I just wasn't getting all the over-the-top euphoric and blissed out "oh my god it's so greaaaaaaaaat!!!" feelings that a lot of you guys had. I preferred EBW9 for its tribal grittiness and dark rhythm that is well suited for a dingy sweaty club at 3am. Hard and electronic, just liked the Brothers promised. Also preferred EBW9 and am still hoping that it will one day be available on cd. Anyway, back to Saturate - I like the album length of Saturate much more than the EBW8 counterpart which I felt was far too long and dragged out after the first few listens. EBW8 just didn't have the staying power for me (much like I sort of keep forgetting about Clip Kiss unless Jack mentions it) but Saturate on We Are The Night is lush and fits so perfectly.
Am I making any sense? I haven't had all my coffee yet this morning...

EBW9 feels a little lazy on the production end though.
My only disappointment with Saturate is that it's not as long as the EBW version ;) but that's why I have the real weapon.
You guys are _weird_ :) -- for me burst generator is funky and hot but only loud or on good headphones. it makes a beautiful euphoric environment and experience, but as a piece of music and from a production perspective it's weaker than Das, Midnight, or Saturate.
speaking of midnight -- bosco, you find it '80s? it's a 70s bassline met with a '60s+'naughts beat filled with brand new chemical brother production values (those that resemble but tend to outdo Daedelus as they're more meticulous)
