Hello all together!
A debate in this forum led me to an issue that haven't been discussed yet , I guess. Are there tracks or songs of the chem's you really don't like or you would discribe it/them as bad a one(s)? I think that could become very interesting to know what's your opinion.

This is a tough question for me. I can't think of stuff I dislike at the moment...
But my biggest gripe would have to be Pioneer Skies. Such a tease!!! It's got a great Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds type intro and there's lots of twinkly, floaty build ups - you think it's going to be explosive like Private Psychadelic Reel or Sunshine Underground, but alas, it just stops in mid air. Probably the shortest epic Chemical piece I can think of - I don't dislike it but I just hate being teased like that. ;)

This is a question based more on personal opinion than fact. I don't think the "Ed" who has dropped by the forum would take it too seriously since we are a tiny fraction of the chemical fans out there. It's not like they're selling millions of albums because of the 500 or so registered on this board.
And on to my opinion:
I think whirly pointed out the reason why I didn't like pioneer skies too much. I like the way they used it in the first version of "It began in Afrika." I think there we see a loooong as drum solo followed by a build up to the fast moving ass kicking part of the song. I find that the songs I don't enjoy too much are the ones that just need time. The same goes the other way around, some songs seem to be great at start and the power it has on you wears off. Coming from experience, when I first got DYOH, I had little of a clue of what would come next (excluding BRB and SS). When it got to TPPR after that loud sawing noise of "Where do I begin" I knew they were ending the album on a good note, you could feel it was making energy for something. Needless to say, it blew my mind. However, ever since it has lost the effect more. Perhaps when I finally make it to their show, I'll get that amazing feeling the song delivered when I first listened to it.
So I think it's hard to say "this chems song is bad.." because you never know. One morning I woke up and put Surrender in my car player and found my new song for starting the day, Music:Response, whereas before it felt a little annoying, now it's one of my favorites. Acquired taste is all.

Otter Rock has a nice phasey warmth and rawness to it - a nice summertime feel to the song. I've been listening to this a lot too lately, the weather's been so nice - I drive along the coast to drop my son off at school each day and the song makes a perfect backdrop as I'm driving along and see the waves crashing along the beach. Makes me wanna to ditch work is what it does! :P
I'm so glad the boys pulled it out of the vault!

Otter Rock is the happiest song!!! My cousin and I -- when we should have been recording -- were listening to Otter Rock and were discussing how incredibly great it is, especially considering it's built from just four loops!
