In looking for accomodations, does anyone have any suggestions or hints?

In particular, are there certain areas of London that I should NOT book into?

I'm looking for something quite cheap. If possible, a private room; if not, then not. Cost is a big factor, but not everything.

Damn, I wish I could help you out. For the most part I was familiar with S. Kensington because that's where I stayed a lot in 1991, and it's where my folks lived for a while - so familiarity was a driving force when planning me and stash's last trip to London. To be honest I've never booked a place in another part of London, just went to visit different parts of town... I'd better stop before I take a full blown trip down memory lane and drag you all with me...

Anyway. We got a whole package deal that included flights and the hotel - it was worth doing it that way and cheaper too.

You might want to look into a hotel package deal on priceline.com (what we went through) or expedia.com and see if you can score a deal that way. If you haven't done so already.

I've looked at a few packages and actually just found one that seems perfect... except for the fact that the package costs about exactly what I'm going to try to spend for the entire trip.

I think it'll likely be a hostel for me (unless Bosco comes through with some cash and can join the North American contingent of one, splitting a room), and unless people tell me otherwise, I'll be looking somewhere in the Hyde Park area. Close to many of the attractions, not terribly far from Turnmills, etc. Some decent looking hostels around there.

I'm still trying to decide whether to book accomodation, I'm working on the 2nd January, 6:30 am start. Dunno if I can book the day off though, if so will stay another night in London, if not may as well sleep on train home :). Does anyone else know yet if they'll be staying in London for another night or going home on NYD?

Grahame - Its such a shame you cant make it to NYE, its gonna be such a wicked night and best of all for you, it would have been a really cheap one too! Theres still a few weeks to convince your girl... but time is running out so you better get on to it!! Oh and do you know what order the DJs will be playing? Jon Carter is prob my favourite DJ ever and I dont wanna miss him if he's on early!

Dark - You are HARDCORE! It doesn't matter where you stay as long as its in tube zone 1/2 so its easy to get your butt to and from Turnmills. Turnmills is in Farringdon incase you didn't know and wanted to stay nearby... I really cant wait, I'm so excited! I've never heard a live DJ set from them before...

OK, Girlelectric said earlier that this is her first Chems dj set...

So how many others in this merry band of New Year's raving lunatics are gonna be having their Chems-DJ-Set Cherries popped this NYE??

And Grahame... this insider info you've blessed the forum with has been a godsend for so many people. Cheers!

!

I've never seen them DJ, just heard them on Radio live. Of course i've seen them do their live shows twice which isn't really in the same league as DJing but i'm pretty sure i'm guranteed a quality night.

My first Chems DJ set and only my second time seeing them at all. Stoked.

And, it's beyond official now: I have my plane tickets! All systems are go. Accomodations, football, and meetups are all that's left to sort out!

Grahame, do u think next year there will be Glints more reguarly, this year there has only been Glasto and NYE, so hopefully more djs sets next year, saying that i do really enjoy the live sets. I notice together is going to be more often aswell.
