And by the way, I tried Reason 4.0 Demo for that matter and had the same issue with my Axiom49. The faders and knobs are not responding and cannot be set up via remote control. It's weird. The in-signal only occurs when I hit the keys but nothing happens when I did the same with faders/knobs. Maybe it's the demo version causing it but I don't have a solution right at the moment.

I'm starting to get really good sounds with the MS2000. I still don't like the filter, but what a piece of gear !

hmmmm csar thats interesting.

by coincidence my friend was thinking of getting the Axiom49...and he uses reason with me, so we should probably check that out.

Btw other then that issue, how is the Axiom as a keyboard? worth getting?

Are you hooked up via midi or usb?

I had an axiom24 and it wasn't bad. little too advanced though for my basic needs. Later on I got one of the newer models of the oxygen, which is more straight forward, without the akai pads and also less presets for midi crap. If you only have one rackmount or 2 or 3 soft synths you really use, I'd go with something cheaper.

doesn' the midi go through USB at the other end???

i didnt know you could get just a usb cable for keyboards... i guess i just assumed coz people refer to them as midi keyboards lol

Yeah, some midi keyboards have a built-in usb port so you can connect directly to the usb port on the pc. If your keyboard doesnt have a usb port, you can buy a midi cable that has a usb plug on it so you can connect to the pc without having to a get a new soundcard with the midi functionality.

Theyre all called midi keyboards cause they communicate using midi codes :P Its basically a standard now. Even if it connects via usb, it still transmits code in midi format i believe.

I went out and bought a midi cable to hook up my micro korg and electribe a1 last night. MMMmm sequenced arpeggios are lovely :) :) Its funny how the ea1 is a mono synth but can produce a midi signal that triggers the arp on the micro. ITs a bad ass lil combo tho.

I do have a general question about midi, hopefully someone can help me understand it a lil better.

Is it possible to connect devices via midi, specifically to synch up the midi clocks? Possibly alter the filter to only transmit clock signals??

So far, whenever i hook em up, anytime a key is pressed it will transmit to the other device triggering it to speak. Depending on which one is slave and master....

I feel like such a child in here...

Can someone answer me this: How does Ableton work? Like, how does it function in electronic live performances?

Jittern, I guess it depends on your experience. If you're an advanced keyboarder it's a fine keyboard. It's got half-weighted keys which I really appreciate. But that could be an issue if you're more into light-weighted keys because fast playing could be tricky with them for the first time. You need to get used to those. Otherwise its sliders and drum pads are really good. These triggers are quite sensitve and react promptly.

Until now, I didn't experienced any proplems with this device.

mmmm the semi weighted keys were one of the things i noticed...part of the reason for our interest.

MadPooter, I havn't used ableton much (however its my plan for the holidays) however i believe ableton is used mainly for live performances i.e triggering loops and what not. However it does seem like an interesting program with lots of features. One feature is that my friend has been making riffs using his computer keyboard acting as a midi keyboard, which I havn't encountered before. As well as that, it is easy to add effects such as distortion and phasers.

Anyway after i check it out over the holidays i might be able to give you a better answer :D

I havent really quite figured out what Ableton is all about it. I do know about hte midi control and the "ease" of importing loops. I guess its a simpler version of Cubase? Not too sure tho. I plan on figuring it all out in a month or so, as soon as im done with this last semester of college. Good ol summer, figured out many a proggies during the season :D :D

Might be dashing away from whatever everyone is talkin' about. Buuuuuut.

Dad (who's Mr. Musician) and I got a Oberheim Matrix 1000 a few years back. A few months back, he took it out and we started messing with it and checking it out. I leave the house for one hour and I come back to him explaining how he tried to load SYSEX files from a different console into it and now he can't access the ROM data. I nearly throttled him. Anyway, was wondering of anyone has the system exclusives for that console, or knows a good place to pick 'em up. Thing has some of the best sounds I've ever heard and I'd not like to lose 'em forever!

Id say youre kindof screwed, but your best bet would be to find someone with and a Matrix 1000 and transfer the sysex files from that. Thatd be your best bet, but im sure you thought of that :P Good luck finding someone close to you with that synth 8-) You might be able to transfer sysex data from a Matrix 6?

The ironic part is that the Matrix 6 files are the ones that messed it up in the first place! But, yeah, I'll see if I can find someone near by that has it. Unlikely, but eh...

Thanks Mikey!

it's good, really. I bought a Behringer BCN44 to have more controls, but it's not as useful as it sounded when I bought it... anyway, nice sounds, I can do plenty of VCS-like sounds !

Just did a remix for a French rapper, with a classic Juno chorus pad, and a classic MS2k bass, 808 samples for the beats, and a bit of MicroModular for some FX

This maybe not the right place for asking it, but I have read several items about how to clean vinyl. I have about 70 records, but i'm not gonna buy a expensive vinyl clean machine. Do you guys have some cheap solutions about how to remove the dust/fingerprints in the grooves of the records? (tom ed? :D) I just don't want to f*ck up my records...

23/11/07 <3 - 29/06/07 <3 - ..I will never forget you guys, you know who you are..

Well, I don't know if there's THAT way of removing dust and fat fingers and I don't know how DJs do but as for the dust look for some soft lp brushes or simple cleaning rags. I've got a brush to clean the grooves but that's an old one from GDR times. Maybe you'll find some micro fibre blankets. They're smooth and soak up the tiniest particles as well as fat I guess.

Does anyone have any idea of the synths used all over Aphex Twin's Chosen Lords ? There's one that sounds like a modified TB303. Also maybe the Yamaha GX1 ?
