I'm currently torn between buying a synth and those EBWs.
:?
Anyone on here perhaps selling and old synth for cheap?
you can have a Juno 106 for less than 350$... It's a really good synth for electro and it's one of the cheapest (second hand, of course)

Has anyone ever hooked up an efx-500 (or 1000) with a laptop?
Does it work well?
I currently DJ off 2 record decks and my laptop, and I want to put my laptop tracks through an efx-500, but I have never had a go on one.
I want to know if it is a good setup, worth saving up for and going and getting an efx-500.
Thanks
pringled.

think i have seen that video before (i cant see it to tell cos my computer is playing silly buggers). the geezer makes the 1000 sound like studio k. the 1000 is a wonderful bit of kit, it easily pisses on the 500.
i must admit i love the new djm 800 mixer. you can really hear zabeila abusing this mixer on the last few mixes of his i downloaded of the mixing bowl. check the video of it in action

I'm wondering whether you did all in FL? If yes, i'd like to see how you made this one.
Nah. Did it with the old Buzz tracker. I'm still working out how to do alot of the same stuff with FL Studio.

at minute 4:09-4:10 that breakdown, i always tried to make those ones like drumming down the toms on a real drumset (can't describe it better, hope you got what i mean).
It's part of the "fill" in the beat sample. The beat samples i use all have drum-fills (tom rolls, snare-tom combo's, snare rolls. etc). I get all my beats from sample CD's then tweak them with compressors and low/mid/hi eq stuff. I use different parts of beats from multiple breakbeat samples. A snare from here, fill from there, kicks from here, hats from there. etc. Google "acoustic drum loops" and you'll find heaps of places to get free samples from. Look for files that have "fills" and you'll get what you need. In FL Studio the Slicer and Piano Roll are great for beat manipulation.
Csar Escribi:
And another question i'm fired up to is how you've made this time delay at minute 0:50 where the beat's like staccato.
I think I get what you mean. The bit that sounds stretched out just before the piano riff first kicks in? I do this by using the sample-offset command in Buzz tracker. It appears from Google that this is hard to do with Piano Roll editors such as the one in FL Studio. :( I'll try to work it out for use with FL Studio.

There's just one thing i would suggest to stress the bass-drum a little more
Yes very true. Because I don't use quality speakers for making music, my tunes generally have too much treble and not enough bass, but I'm working it out slowly. I don't want to use my stereo speakers in case they get wrecked.
