I'm back from Folk Fest, feeling pretty good. Lots of ups and downs and good memories. I actually returned with three beers, a bottle of Jack, and some hash, surprisingly.
Caught lots of good music, from the Indigo Girls to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones to the Cat Empire to children's entertainer Fred Penner. Best acts of the weekend were Michael Franti and Spearhead, as well as a Pope's Hill/campground rave set by That1Guy.
Seriously, That1Guy was awesome. He's a one man band, playing a custom instrument, and rocking some seriously awesome industrial/electro tunes. His best tune was 'Buttmachine', which sounded like the lovechild of 'Another One Bites the Dust' and 'Closer'. I remarked at the time that he was a lot like dancey Nine Inch Nails, except good. Of course, the fact that I was hippyflipping at the time didn't hurt either. And he had a wicked video setup being operated on the fly by a local artist.
Watched the sun come up three days in a row, got maybe 9 or 10 hours sleep all weekend. Smoked and smoked and smoked. Ate lots of great food. Had a huge hassle with Ticketmaster, work, the bank, etc. on the way out.
Didn't hook up with my friend, with whom I've been seeking a relationship, which really sucked. I think that ship is heading nowhere fast. She messes with my head too much. I was pretty disappointed and frustrated for a while.
And then the following night while I was hippyflipping, this girl I just met was really into me, but I was rolling too hard and wanted to party earlier in the night and just wasn't in the mood really when I ran into her later, even though my friends said she'd been looking for me most of the night and said it was pretty much a done deal if I'd manned up. I'm a moron, what can I say? Just stayed up smoking hash until the sun was high in the sky.
Rocked the mushrooms and gelcaps three nights in a row with no adverse consequences. Ate more ice cream than is healthy.
Definetly a weekend dedicated to pure hedonism, Winnipeg Folk Festival is so relaxed, so lax on security, such good weather (around 30 C every day), it's really about the one thing I could honestly recommend to everyone on this board. Fantastic.
I'm back in the city, feeling good, rollerbladed this morning, maybe going to see Transformers tonight.
A bit choked because I don't have enough money to buy WATN yet since I'm having problems with my bank.
Otherwise life isn't too bad.
Cheers.
(PS. Hippyflipping is great. Wish I'd had more. And apparently it's possible to smoke so much hash that it doesn't do anything anymore.)
