I read it on Burnitblue.com
Review of the homelands
"...2 Many DJ?s may be laying down the gauntlet to the legions of fools following pointless rules but in contrast anyone who can remember seeing the Chemicals back when they delivered super phat, block rocking energy at unhealthy decibel levels, was likely to be disappointed by them this time around. The linear, hypnotic flavours in Arena 1 were? well, almost trancey. And no amount of flash lasers could disguise the fact. "

with reviewing skills like that, that journalist could work for the NME!!!
i agree that it was not the best set i have heard them play, but to describe it as trancey??? was this reviewer in the right tent???
I can't even remember which online source it originated from, but a person from the old chems mailing list fowarded a gig review to everyone a year ago. I think the burnitblue reviewer is the same person. The review was so incoherant, even contradictory in parts, it almost gave me a migraine reading it. The damn thing read like he was in an opium induced haze after coming down off a 3 day meth bender. Yuck.
Fair enough that someone doesn't like the show, I can handle a bad review. But a bad review written badly is almost too much to bear.

I enjoy Q magazine most of the time, I think for the most part they've been kind to the Bros. I like the way the articles/reviews/interviews are written.
I was bit thrown off when I read a Q interview with them when the Chems were in Japan - 2002 I think, first for a press release or something, then for a show (which went really well, Ed describes the crowd as a sea of fingers in the air) Anyway - the interview was OK but went down hill when the person interviewing started asking all sorts of inane questions like in some sort of "how well do the brothers know each other" segment of the article. The questions were, "Ed, what would Tom do if he found a wallet with money in it?" and "Ed, what would happen if Tom's found his wife having a cozy lunch with some man" and "Tom, what if Beth Orton wanted to take you back to her trailer park for a little lovin." To top off the interview, there was some inane time travel question that was beyond ludicrous. I thought for a minute I was reading Rolling Stone or *gasp* Teen Beat, not Q. No wonder Ed seemed to be so agitated during the interview!
Anyway, that's enough rabble from me. If I can find the interview, I'll post it.
