I liked Doom back in early 90s. And Doom II also...
I was playing it almost every day.
Btw, Doom III is ready. But the system requirements are very very high, so I dunno when I'll be able to play it...
I played Doom when it was brand new, 94 I think. I remember thinking, wow, what cool graphics. Then Doom II. Then there was Quake. Now that was something! You could actually crouch and you actually got motion sick while playing it. Then Quake II. I invested many hours playing it.
Then Q3 came along and it just seemed, I don't know. Tweaky. The movements were really jerky but it was a lot of fun to blow off steam and the eye candy is great. I dug the "rounded" curves in the game and the reflective qualities of the smooth surfaces. So were the mod skins that were floating around.
Doom3, now *that's* going to kick much ass. My husband got ahold of some beta test for the game (sorry, I can't share) of just a couple of short levels. And it's creepy. Genuinely creepy, don't-play-at-night-when-you're-all-alone-and-in-the-dark-because-you-just-might-wet-yourself kinda creepy. And the graphics omg, they are to die for. That game, even though it's gut eating graphically twisted - it's a clencher. It is a work of art and you can tell the game was a labour of love. It will take a lot of computer power to run it though. I've got a solid machine and a pretty decent video card and the Doom3 beta tripped it up. Then again, it was a test beta and it's the nature of beta tests to have the bugs still in there. I will be one of the first to place my advance order for that game at my nearest Electronics Boutique.
