Finally got round to watching Hanna on DVD for the first time just yesterday, heard the soundtrack separately a few months ago. Really enjoyed the film, was exactly what I was expecting, a really good action thriller with a somewhat meaningful subplot. Whereas a lot of films of similar style would have had a fairly straightforward and predictable plot, I for one really liked the back-story of Hanna's own existence, ie, who she is and where she came from, plus her getting used to and experiencing the world for the first time.
Some of the reviews I've read have either been too critical of it being too violent and less focused on the story, although other reviews have been totally the opposite, praised the action and criticised the attempt of a meaningful plot.
Either way one things for sure, the soundtrack is purely awesome!! When I first listened to the soundtrack a few months back I unfairly found myself trying to listen to it as another Chemical Brothers album, looking for standout tracks that work on their own. Even though I still enjoyed 'Container Park', 'Escape 700' and 'Hanna's Theme', it wasn't until I watched the film with the music in context that I fully appreciated the soundtrack.
I for one really hope the soundtrack the Chems created for Hanna will bring new trends back to movie soundtracks, instead of the standard orchestral scores that seems to have been the trend for many years now, I would really love more film-makers to give other music styles the chance to work alongside the big screen.
Kind of makes me sad in a way that Faithless have retired from making music, I really felt their atmospheric soundscapes and overall depth they had to their early albums would have been amazing as film scores...
