Out of curiosity, do any of you associate any Chems songs with the holidays? The holiday doesn't necessarily have to be Christmas - it can be Independance Day, Easter, Arbor Day, Labor Day, Groundhog Day, Earth Day...? X-D

I dont really associate anything with holidays except maybe Wham's "Last Christmas" I dont care too much about bank holidays.
I have shitloads of memories on MY holidays tho , my travel holidays , my travelling.....basicly every Chems song ever made reminds me of something...
Does that count to ?!
And Apostle...i know exactly what you mean!
It's been two years since me and my ex bf broke up ( as friends and we still are ! ) and altough i am totally over him and i wish him all the luck in the world with his new gf - still when i hear "Warning Sign" by Coldplay it reminds me of a time somewhere about 3.5 - 4 years ago when i lived in Paris and he came to visit me for about 3 days. We were still so young and so in love and whenever i hear that song i remember how much i was in love with him! I still don't like to listen to it altho i associate it with something beautifull that i have toral peace with.

before i left i burned myself a heap of MP3 disks, each disk had a different collection of my favourite artists on them. for some reason, the first day i got up to Urunga, i decided to listen to my chems disk on random. i couldnt turn it off for the whole 6 weeks. i would walk around town listening, go to bed listening, read tintin listening. amazing.
two weeks into that holiday, they were my favourite band.
i love them and i always think about that time up there as how i fell in love.
Also, Push the button reminds me of summer and ridiculous anticipation of seeing the brothers at Big Day Out.

Absolutely I do! However, the memory isn't very good. Around the time Come With Us came out, well, OK before it did, I downloaded the album. It was around Christmas time, and I just broke up with my college girlfriend. Right after a huge fight in which I smashed most of her stuff in front of her new date, my roommate was playing Pioneer Skies. I will forever associate that with Christmas and drunken, violent break-ups.
Aww, that's a bummer, man. So far I haven't had a bad memory (or bad holiday memory for that matter) associated with the Chemical Brothers but if I did, I am afraid it would break my heart. Is it hard for you to listen to Come With Us now especially Pioneer Skies, or has time and new love smoothed things over?

Of course your holidays count Jeanie! They are your holidays!!
OK, how about this... are there certain songs that you associate with certain times of the year. Like winter holidays and summer holidays etc.?
Like for instance me - I associate the song Otter Rock with summer because it's just one of those tunes that runs through my head when I'm driving through town on a sunny day and people are walking by enjoying the sunshine and taking time to enjoy their lives. It also reminds me of 4th Of July which has become one of my favorite holidays - not because of what it signifies but because it's the perfect lazy, enjoyable holiday and well rested time off work. It's a time spent drinking Red Stripe, lazing about on the beach with nothing better to do, then heading back for a bbq with stash at the grill making (yes, I am serious) jerk chicken and fish!

No! I cannot listen to Pioneer Skies without getting red with rage. I really liked that girl. I have had "better" girlfiends since then, as in longer relationships, non dysfunctional, but nothing so far has taken away that damned feeling she gave me. UGH I want to like that song!

I was almost in the position to hate a chemical brothers song this past summer with my ex.......but luckily snow patrol took it's place. We listened to Where Do I Begin and Chasing Cars throughout our relationship. They were the 2 most listened to songs but the night we broke up we had snow patrol on and that's one of my last memories with her.....and an episode of SNL. Since then I got a job at an HMV where my boss plays snow patrol every DAY!!! I've played WDIB since on a sunday morning and it was all good with that song....still a classic....

This one might be long, but it's pretty close to my heart -
My strongest Chemical memory is Come With Us. I got into electronic music very late - was a metal and rock n roll lad n this was back in '01 when I got exposed to electronic music for a coupla months through trance. I have to admit it was completely new and since those were the acid binging days we had fun with trance too.
Then a few months down the line, I was in delhi for a vacation, and we did this big score, n were lookin for a place to trip all day, finally found out my best friend's (who was back here in blr at school) folks were out of the city and his house was free, 5 of us including my girl landed up there, it's like a duplex house, we were all sittin after droppin in the living room downstairs listenin to trance and the trip was just not kickin in. All of us were fuck disappointed. Then somewhere I didn't notice Shekhoo (another best bud) sneak out of the room, and after bout 10 mins I see him signalling me from the 1st floor (my best friend's room) to come up - I sneaked up alone, and enter and I see the room's all dark with candles all over in strategic positions, n he put in this cd FULL BLAST and told me - bro if THIS doesnt work, nothing will tonight.
Then, imagine. a simple jerk like me who had NO clue of electronic music outside of trance suddenly being exposed to the opening bars of COMMMAA WITTHHTHTHHHAUSUSUSUUSSSS full blast on a high dose of lsd !!! The whole fuckin room TOOK OFF like a fuckin spaceship with that intro, i really had to hold myself down to the floor, I get goosebumps even now when I hear the opening of the disc now and straightaway connect back to that symbolic night.
I can never thank Shekhoo for that brilliant night - introducing me to the Chems, and HOW.
Of course the rest of the night was full on, n the sid was very very potent.
