Explud, can you email me at c h o n e g g e @ p u r d u e . e d u ? (remove the spaces of course)
Ben_j, Krisper, Whirly, can you email me too at the above address? I want to CC you on this since I know y'all will be able to help here and there as well. No obligations, just eavesdrop at the very least.
And literally anyone else who wants to chip in or listen in on how the projects going, feel free to email me and I'll throw you in. Anything from design/photoshop skills to IT and web administration will be a huge, huge help. Even memes to keep the spirits up.
At some point I will make a mailing list to inform you of when the new forum goes up, regardless of where we are. If this does not happen, I'm 80% sure the forum will be at www.thechembase.com, so check there if we don't get each other's contact info.

I hold dear my connections to you all, not necessarily to this place, and wherever we go to keep these connections alive will be a place I will welcome as an Internet home.
Thanks so much guys, I'm really motivated to go through with this project but I had to know if there'd be support for it. And Pooter, that was beautiful. I'm a sucker for taking on projects that are easily too big for me, but keeping my connections with everyone here, new and old, is absolutely my biggest motivation for going through with this.
I would have replied to all of you but the forum has a limit on how many quotes you can have! More shit to fix...
And yes, there will be a like button in the new forum. Maybe even a dislike - shit could get crazy.

Rename it to "Unofficial fan forum"?

I hope so, but this is a massive maybe. We might be able to program a script to "copy" the forum as it is but this isn't an easy task and would require a truckload of converting and file management to do successfully. These archives go back to late 2002, which is no small amount of life and information!
It would be best if we could get a copy of the database like Explud said and I'm all for that, but no one in charge is talking with us about the forum shutting down, so I have no answers and I'm really worried about what's going to happen to the archives.
I'll echo Explud again - Whirly, can you ask the forum gods about what will happen to the archive/database, and if a copy of it could be provided?

cuz not everyone will know about it. It'll just be a circle jerk of couple of dudes. Revamp this old forum and the possibility of new members joining, old ones returning are higher.
I really want to avoid this, that's why I made the topic in the first place. Revamping the forum officially is the most ideal option but the outlook for that is not good. And I really want to preserve the popularity of this forum, a circlejerk of 20 chems veterans reminiscing about "the good old times when we had a forum" will be, well, something but pleasure.
I'm going to see if I can get a link to the fan forum from the official site. It would require no effort from them, and would have the same effect as preserving the forum without the admins having to perform any grunt work in upkeeping it. I'd have to talk to someone in charge about it though, and getting someone in charge of the forum/site to talk to us is apparently the most difficult thing in the world...
