Hi.
I have this Out of control -music video by chemical brothers, and it strikes me everytime i see it how much political influenses it seems to have.
The video starts with a voice thats uses Castellano language and says something like " comrades, unite, the globalisation is spreading in mexico".
Then, there is this advertising video which seems to benefit for the Viva Cola liquid product. Somewhere here and there, you see flashes of Che Guevara posters. ( heard that chem. had to cut away the clip with the bottle in the official video, after being threatened with sues from the cola company)
In the end, someone throws a bottle at the TV which shows the advertisment, and a sort of reality outrage on a nightly street take place, with police and demonstrantes that clashes togheter. People get hurt and demonstrators vandalizes a Cola automat.
Somewhere here in the movie you can also see a flash on a poster with the mexican rebellion zapatista-leader subcommandante marcos on.
It really attents me, because i have been i southern mexico as a volunteer for the human rights watch, and i have seen how the globalization has affected the poor native people living there, forcing them to abandon their cropfields for the benefits of the big haciendas.
All this aggravation against globalization and neoliberalism in the Out of control video cant just be an coincidence and put there on no basis reasons by "The Brothers", now can it?
Are the brothers having a more socialistic political vision, or is it just a coincidence with all this put togheter all in one?

That's an interesting observation, one that I've noticed before (minus the zapatista reference and a couple other things you pointed out). Amazing eye though, I'll have to watch the video again to see if I can spot the things I missed!
It's interesting how the video goes from glossy and sexy and almost a theatric/hollywood take on social upheaval to the shaky, raw night vision footage of the street rioting that seems a lot more realistic.
I think I heard somewhere... discussed on the planet-dust.net discussion board (where I might've gone off on a tangent most likely) that the video was banned on muchmusic but I don't know for sure, or for what reasons.
It's hard to say if how this video turned out is the Brothers' pure vision, as it seems they tend to give the directors of the videos free reign when it comes to creating the videos. But likely the Brothers would have to feel what the director is feeling in order to give the green light - who really knows for sure if the Brothers were making a political statement against globalisation - we may never know for certain.

Ah, here we go, found the discussion on www.planet-dust.net:

Yeah I did go off on a tangent, making all sorts of assertions. I'm surprised I didn't fall on my face when I stumbled off that soapbox! X-D

Thanks for the reply whirlygirl.
I think its really amazing/sad to see on what whimply purposes the video got banned and how big power the sponsored corporations really have according to the music channels they support.
Its really scary, because this shows us how much the corporations control the channels they support.
It gave me atleast, a bigger political consciousness, and i hope, in the near future, that there will be more independent music medias popping up, that dont kneel at once when the corp. tell them to, just because there might be a little show of "kontraband."
Music should be freed from all kinds of control and insight of someone elses interests, the music should be as free as the freedom of speech.
Maybe, its just this, that the chemicals wants to tell us with this video.
Because, compared to other videos,
this was a video "Out Of Control". ;-)
