Orbital have reformed after five years and will headline the Big Chill 2009.

The dance duo, whose split after their last gig headlining the Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2004, will head up the line-up for the Eastnor, Herefordshire bash, which will take place on August 7, 8 and 9 next summer.

Speaking about their reformation, Orbital's Phil Hartnoll said in a statement: "It's not an exercise in nostalgia, the time just seems right. Everything just seemed to fall into place.

"We've got 15 years of active service, making song. If you boil that down to a 90-minute festival set you should get something thoroughly exciting from beginning to end. Let's put some fun back into it."

AWESOME!!!

I've hoped for news like this, but I had the same thought that Acidchildren did--what happened to all their gear?

Maybe they can use this to have a fresh start on their music.

It would be awesome if they ended up headlining Coachella, but looks like they're not getting back together until August of next year. :-(

If they have sold their gear I hope they buy some spoons and a wooden table and make music.

Yep! This is good news. I have NME bookmarked and found this out last night.

Damn! The buzz for Prodigy and now Orbital. Kind of like a 90's electro reunion!

Definitely really interested to see what they come up with, not to mention excited that I might actually be able to see them perform live... :) :) :)

Can anyone recommend a good starter album? I got Work 1989-02, but it seems like most the songs on it were not even album versions... :\

I know they split back in 2004 and that still confuses me....Aren't they brothers? They can't really split in life. I understand that they didn't want to do Orbital anymore. But it still boggles my mind.

Wasn't their last gig for John Peel late in 2004 at Maida Vale?

None the less. Huzzah for the possibility of actually getting to see Orbital in my lifetime. I thought I was screwed after 2004. So they just pulled the equivalent of a Jay-Z retirement in the electronic world.

@Prochem: I would argue that their best album is Orbital 2, also known as the "Brown Album." Tracks of note on the album are Halcyon + On + On, a track which still bring tears to my eyes if I allow it, Lush 3.1+3.2, Remind, and Impact (The Earth Is Burning).

What I love best about the album, though, is that tracks 2-6 all flow together really, really well. Impressively well. After a few listens, I came to respect them more after listening to anything else of theirs.

If you fall in love with Orbital 2, be sure to pick up Diversions, which has an extended version of Impact, as well as a mashup between Lush 3 and Walk About that they did for John Peel.

After Orbital 2, go for In Sides. That album probably has the most well known tracks on it, e.g. The Box, P.E.T.R.O.L., and The Girl with the Sun in Her Head.

@Rynostar: Yes, they're brothers. And splitting up for Orbital meant not making music -together- anymore. ;-) And yes, their last gig was for John Peel in late 2004 at Maida Vale.

I've listened to that above track a number of times--it never fails to disappoint. It's
