Why Not A Live Album At Least...?

However, I honestly feel that the current live set is so good MUSICALLY, even without the visual accompaniment that it would be well-chronicled as an audio disc. I've been watching Coachella clips and getting chills and then when I flip to another browser window and just have the audio from Youtube playing it still has such an impact. And I love the nuances that I notice when listening at home that I either didn't notice or can't remember from either of the shows I've seen in person this past month.
At this point I've given up on there ever being a visual commercial release, but why not an audio recording?
(Or just send me soundboard recordings.... ? )

But I think, with the evolution of the Chems live set in mind, it might be self defeating to release a live album. Like for example, this tour is a great combo of their catalogue but there is a heavy emphasis on Further (of course). The We Are The Night tour was also a good representation of their catalogue but obviously that tour emphasized that album. Same with Push the Button... And so on and back down the line through time. So releasing a live album would be timely, but would also be in danger of sounding dated the minute a new album is released/new tour is embarked on.
Then there is the whole "oh but they recorded that show, but the bootleg of the one from <insert exotic foreign city here> is better and they should have released an album of that gig instead". And then there's the whole "but why didn't they have a physical release, whyyyyy???" and "omg rage no vinyl!!!!" because (and i know i'm probably going to start another tired discussion about digital vs tangible) but let's be real. On the slim chance we ever get something like a live album the likelihood of the label investing in a physical release of a live album is not as likely now as it was 10 years ago.
But anyway back to the main point. I think it would be cool if anything for posterity's sake to commemorate the coolness of a tour in the essence of a live album - it can be done and it can be successful. But there are some cons, too. The approach to something like this would have to be accessible, financially feasible for band, label and fans, and innovative in terms of selling and advertising and really getting people outside of the devoted/hardcore excited about a live album.

It's a pity cause it's totally true that the show is musically awesome and needs to be released. Plus The Prodigy are finally about to release a full live album ! Well, not really "full" but partially. So why don't The Chems do ?
WE NEED A LIVE ALBUM !!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH !!!!!!!!

they still play huge concerts? in the past few years they just didn't seem to be motivated much. anyway. years agao, after TFOTL, liam howlett said there were no further prodigy studio albums to be released, just live albums. obviously took him some time to.

But, since the subject has been broached, Daft Punk allegedly also felt that their visual show was best experienced in the flesh but that an audio recording was warranted. Whirly's point about the current show being somewhat slanted towards Further era material would be the main argument against a release though I think there's a pretty good spread of tunes from their entire career.

The Prodigy are still a massive headliner band. Liam Howlett has produced two Prodigy studio albums since TFOTL.
Get your facts straight, retard.

Joeyjoejoe, that comment was uncalled for. Defend the Prodigy if you want but BWTGE wasn't out of line or rude with his opinion. I like the Prodigy a lot and they're a legendary live act too but no need to jump down the throat of anyone else on here. Cheers, bro.

DAMN!
I like Prodigy. But I think I rated their last album as so-so, but there still going!
I've given up on a 'live' album because I think the chemicals are more interested in releasing new material that's hard and difficult to make. They want a challenge when they're in the studio, whereas a live album would be too easy for them! Just get a soundboard recording and sell it on Itunes.
The only thing I want to be released is an EP...........that's it! Can they least say that it will happen in 'the foreseeable future'!

Haha, yes indeed!
So, I just realized what I said sounded like I was referencing the company that I'm about to work for (called Epic), but I in fact was trying to emphasize how extremely, massively amazing such a retrospective "best-of" release would be.
