Nick Cage has been in some good movies, yet at the same time he's been in so many stinkers that you just never know. I've come to the conclusion that in my opinion, a great deal of what he's done has been 'meh' and otherwise forgettable... Adaptation though was great- I knew it would be - and I really enjoyed it. I thought he was great in Leaving Las Vegas, very convincing and I wasn't bothered by him winning the Oscar.

Up through Leaving Las Vegas he's been in enjoyable movies I've really liked - I think he's much better suited for playing more comedic and earnest roles... but not too earnest and hammy if you know what I mean. I also liked him in Wild At Heart and Moonstruck (yeah, Moonstruck, cuz I'm a girl!!) and Peggy Sue Got Married (because again, I was a young teen in the 80's). Also Rumble Fish and one of my all time favorite movies Raising Arizona. Because of Raising Arizona, I can't really hate the guy!

Dropped three strong tabs of gel last night and somewhere along the way decided to view the Spun director's cut I had finally sourced.

Jonas Akerlund is pretty much a genius, the film is awesome, but it was a bad decision to watch it on sid - with all the typical meth desperation/ edginess and the regular skank shite involved. Good film - serves the purpose - tells a good story bout the good ole horrible meth habit - but with Akerlund's brilliant editing, camerashot, and some very fine acting by everyone including Mickey Rourke.

Went for a 4 km run in the middle of the night, after gettin over with the film finally - felt good to get it outta my system - the coffee felt so much sweeter this morning! :)

Watched Labyrinth last night with the ladyfriend. I'd never seen it before, but it's an absolutely fantastic movie. Loved it.

Watched 'The Departed' the other night.

God, Leonardo DiCaprio is a fucking good actor.

Strong perfomances all around, and Scorsese was definately ON. Probably his best since Goodfellas.

I really, really, really, hated The Departed.

The Departed= Goodfellas, except it takes place in Boston. ( I hate Goodfellas as well.)

Overrated film, overrated director.

I find idiotic Italian scum just as annoying as queer evangelical Christians.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before but Pan's Labyrinth is quite an amazing cinematic experience

We saw Pan's Labyrinth finally. It was a good film and beautifully done cinematic piece of eye candy. The way it was filmed was nice and lush and the sound engineering is top notch.

There were some genuinely disturbing and creepy moments. The Captain was a despicable character, rotten to the core. I hated him. And if a film invokes those kinds of feelings then something's being done right. It was devastating how grim an existance that child lived, and how she was able to escape in the fantasy world which was her only hope. Definitely an allegory for heaven, I thought.
