To hell with downloading, just start literally stealing music out of stores. If everyoone who was pissed shoplifted one DVD and one CD and there were a few armed robberies of major label warehouses, we could change the system...
Or not.

Don't get me started on EMI,
My brothers band was signed up to EMI,
due to the bloody cut backs they were dropped after 2 years. As they were just making a name for themselves, they also had an album pending release! Guy Hands and that takeover, I blame him - Well I have to blame someone to make myself feel better!
As for YouTube, they want to become a site just for homemade videos, none that breach copyright laws. It is pretty stupid seens as the majority of people use YouTube to view videos that usually breach the law. Daym laws!!!!!

Unfortunately, dropping bands isn't just an EMI thing, it's par for the course with just about every major label. Bands that don't 'stick' after a couple of years are usually dropped as it's too expensive to keep a band around if it isn't a lucrative venture for the label. Hell, bands that have been around for years then dropped due to label cutbacks (or because the band isn't a cash cow anymore) is nothing new... And what's worse is that when some bands are dropped, the music is held hostage by the labels that "own" the songs or rights to the songs. It's hard for any band signed on to a major label to get ahead, especially as labels are hurting and scrambling to keep up with the evolution of how music is made, distributed, marketed, etc.. It's a lot of money for the labels, and a lot of money out of pocket for the bands. It's unfortunate and disappointing but that's the way it goes...

Ahh you made some valid points there whirly, I can't help but think though if they had gone with a different label would they be more better off? They weren't a bad band actually, they were just starting to make a name for themselves. They supported Scouting For Girls, personally I dont like SGF but they have a No1 album so they must be liked somewhere. The MD of EMI disagreed with a few things from the start, i.e. design aspects such as their logo which had to be changed. Its just such a shame that when you've had a taste for that lifestyle and it just gets pulled away from you before your eyes. My brothers actually out of work now, which is such a shame. Yet at least hes had that experience to take with him.
