Dream on:
instead of flying or taking greyhound, what i really wanna do is a "road trip"....take two weeks off and drive myself west and see some of the country that ive never seen before, meet everyone at coachella, hook up with 8 chicks, and then drive back home......anyone wanna particapate in an adventure? The Crysler Lebaron (Convertible ;-) ) leaves on 23rd of April and hopefully makes it back on May 7th

so whats the festie like then whirly? ive checked out some of the rules and it seemes a bit heavy :? it is free for all fun or is it a bit more regulated than that? how does it compare to say burning man?
the other thing is, if we stay in palm springs, is it a long way from indio to there? will there be cabs n shit after the festival?
fuckin hell im excited. hah! :D

As for how it compares to Burning Man, it doesn't. The camping is outside the venue, and they are absolute bitches about security. You defintately want to get yourself sorted before you get inside, but leave that detail to me. Inside, it usually isn't a problem to blaze a spliff, but you do have to be alert for security guards. There really aren't that many, considering the size of the place, and you can always find an isolated corner.

The field is all grass, like 3 or 4 miles across, and laid out in the middle they have all sorts of whacked out art projects, giant tesla coils shooting purple lightning bolts into the sky, interactive percussion sculptures, sometimes they have robots eating cars, things like that.
and the food, while usually pricey, is usually pretty good. They have curries and vegan crap, like a hippy carnival.

robots eating cars - nice. sounds good. i love random shit at festivals, at one last year my mate went to they gave away 2000 hula hopos for free - the whole site was wandering round trying to hula X-D

Palm Springs is 25 miles away, but they're desert miles, the speed limit out there is like 75mph, so it takes no time to get to the festival... it ALWAYS takes 2 hours to get out of the parking lot, so coming back is always a bitch.
Not unless we can sneak into the backstage area like we did last time. ;) That was pure luck - thanking one of the Chems' roadies which was cool plus watch them push those boxes. It sure beat the hell out of sitting in the parking lot!!

stash is right. Burning Man is a whole different ball game and more a free-for-all not a controlled environment like Coachella. Security at Coachella takes for_e-verrrrrrrrrrrrr... They do just about everything short of a crevice check. However there is the benefit of being older like me, nobody gives me much of a hard time at Coachella and I've experienced tighter security at the same venue but for a different event. At any rate, you keep what you need to in your wallet hint hint. Security is *not* allowed to poke around your wallet under any circumstances and neither are the undercover cops (who are identifiable by their colored wrist bands) without a warrant or due cause.
They will frisk you and if there's stuff in your pockets they will ask you to empty them out.
There are also the police dogs roaming around too but to be honest I've never seen them actually sniff and catch anyone including some of teh crustier types who looked and smelled like they crawled out from under a hydroponics lab.
Security's pretty strict about you bringing in SLR cameras, recording devices, larger backpacks, umbrellas (not allowed), chains, pocket knives, or open bottles of stuff like hand sanitizer (which I hand still sealed in the package I bought it in so that was OK).
But man, Electronic Battle Warrior managed to sneak in an entire mini-recording studio last time we were there. How he pulled that one off was truly an amazing feat of legendary proportions. If anyone can tell you how to sneak something in, Electronic Battle Warrior's your man! X-D

Mips, you and Glyn better be coming to both days! It was still fun by myself on the Sunday, but not nearly as (at least until the Prodigy). Same goes for Marsh if you're coming!
And I would very much like to try some backstage adventuring again if possible.
