soooo i'm searching for a new mp3 player! On the moment I have a samsung YP-U1 http://img.engadget....842006259920449 its 2 years old now and only 512mb no video only music.

What mp3 players do you guys have? I'm looking for something not to expensive maybe around €100. I found an Creative Zen V plus is it any good? and I need some good earphones too (those in-ear headphones are they any good?) 2gb or 4gb would do fine I think, and if it can play some video's/record/fmtuner would be great too.

So any suggestions? tom ed?

I got that one for my girlfriends birthday without the radio and video option. It's a quite nice and small player with drag and drop system Creative itself which is not difficult but a bit of a hassle. So if you are on a budget it's a good option (I heard Apple copied the interface from Creative for the iPod).

For headphones my choice would be the in ear Sennheiser CX 300. Again good sound quality for a nice price.

I myself am waiting for the new Sony monster NWA919. Gotta have it.

Regarding headphones go for Sony! Not in-ear ideally...

Depending on budget, anything MDR V250 or higher is decently hot (and not in a bad way!).

(and everybody already knows what I'd say about the player ;) so I'll keep quiet. well, almost: if you're interacting with the thing, get the one with the best user interface... which, hint hint, was not copied from Creative; believe me)

I've always been a Sony Walkman fan, these are just a bit tasty http://www.sony.co.u...ry=NWS+E+Series

Depends what you want really, the iPod shuffle is great for running cos you don't even notice it's there, but sound quality isn't good enough for the sound buff.

I want one of those iPod Touches. To bad they only go up to 16 gig. It's got the same features as the iPhone minus the phone and phone bill (which is perfectly fine with me). Quite pricey too.

Yeah, sorry for posting useless info Den B

Den_B, just go with the flow and get yourself an iPod. ;)

The ipod I have is a first generation mini. It's old, but it still works fantastic which is all I care about. So far it's served me well (knock on wood!!)

Oh nooo! Not an Ipod! They're shit, really. They look sweet but are too inconvenient. You're so depentent from itunes an stuff to upload music- it's always a mess. My friend used to have such a thing and it drove him crazy.

Get a mp3 player which is also able to carry data which was an issue for me when I bought my one.

iPods all the way.

I've got a 5G Video (my wife uses it), an iPhone and a Shuffle for the gym.

At 2/4gb you can get a flash based player which means it'll be lighter, slimmer, with no moving parts, longer battery life, cheaper.

Check the prices of one of the iRiver flash players as they have video/record/fmtuner built in. Plus alot of them have SD card input to expand their capacity.

X20 should be in your price range.

Csar: I've had iPods since 2001. the looks are what draw initial attraction, but it's the interface and the iTunes integration that keep you. the 'having to use itunes' is having to just plug it in and HEY! it works... but iTunes is not necessary (there are lots of other utilities -- but why would you..?). Also, you can use an iPod from multiple sources at once. Then there's the fact that iPods are roughly indestructible (especially flash-based iPods). And I've been using the iPod as a portable hard drive since 2001... Honestly there's no music player better than the iPod, Csar.... Sorry. I used Creative players before the iPod came out -- and it killed them completely. They haven't got any better; now they just copy Apple, like everybody else. Their players were pretty innovative before the iPod.

And whatever anybody does, DO NOT GET A SAMSUNG ANYTHING.

Samsung makes the _worst_ interfaces ever. their hardware is cheap and noisy, and fails frequently.

yikes. I sound a little crazy.

but the essence of it is true: get an iPod -- they're actually better. Worth the extra $$. if budget is an issue, buy refurbished (they're exactly like new only tested _more_ and cheaper)

Right now I have an iPod Video but that came out to be $300 or something. But that was a couple years ago so I bet it's a little more inexpensive now. Are you looking for an mp3 player that can play videos on it? If you are you should get the iPod Classic. Here's its link:

 GLAKO you don't sound crazy, you just really like the product... do you work for Apple? I'm kidding! No, you bring up good points about the iPod. Took me forever to get mine... which my brother was so kind enough to give me. I wouldn't mind getting another mp3 player with more storage space some day, and when I do it will definitely be another iPod.

iTunes can be a real pain in the butt, but I'll save it for another time. Overall it's a good service and will only get better over time.

iggy, that Sony player looks pretty sweet. I have a soft spot for Sony Walkmans, I'll never forget my first Walkman - I think those products truly did revolutionize music portability.

hmmm i'm hitting Eindhoven today going to compare some products, maybe i'm buying one or maybe not! I think the sony is the best option for now.. or iPod dunno..

More madness: iPods don't need to play m4a files (which technically are just AAC mp4 files) but I'd recommend it. AAC is better then almost every lossy codec -- there exist a couple of esoteric Vorbis variants that beat it. (and iPods can be modded to play Vorbis!) Musepack is also good.

If you want to play mp3s the iPod will do so dutifully (even though AAC is way better...). Lossless? Yes. Windows Media? No. And please do not encode your music into WMA. Even LAME (an mp3 encoder) is better!!

whirly:

Actually my sister works at an Apple Store now! haha. She started a couple months ago.

How bad is iTunes on Windows? I'm a Mac user. :) I started using the program before it was called "iTunes" (Apple bought it when it was still SoundJam and did some really good stuff with it!). Around 1999-2000 I think that was when I first was using SoundJam. It just worked so nicely. The organisational features were miles ahead of everything else. Honestly I was pretty disappointed that Apple bought it..... but ultimately it meant better OS and QuickTime integration and a regular update cycle.

I remember iTunes before it was iTunes, Glako! Of course, I was just about 10 and had it on OS9, but I still remember it. And I'm still a Mac user to this day. Happy times. But anyway.

One more tally for the iPod, here. I might have a black-and-white screened 3rd generation iPod, but damn if I don't love it. Not like this is much press for a NEW one, but they are good little machines.

I bought the sony NWZ-A816 today, tested both the iPod nano and the sony one in the shop. The sony has better video/pictures play quality then the iPod you could clearly see it, same for the sound! But the iPod had more features like notes/games/worldtime etc. but I didn't need that. I'm blown away by both mp3-players never ever thought that the video quality was so good!!! I bought the 4gb one.. costed me alot of money.. oh and can download 1 free album from iTunes anyone knows some good music??

was watching believe (video) on it amazing quality! lets hope this NWZ-A816 lives long!

Good call DenB. Yes the iPod UI is easy to use, which is what you want, but I would sacrifice that for superior sound quality. Sony equipment is pretty straight forward anyway. I think iPods are for thick people, like Mac users. To quote a Mac user "oow isn't that shiny and pretty, I can see my reflection in this screen, I like this Mac more than my friends".

hahaha nice IG :)

but seriously you don't think Macs are for thickies do you? cause if so, ouch!
