yeah, it's really a good revieuw, and jeannie, as you were and 3rd row from the fence, i was like Against the fence, and we never had plastic to cover under lol, but the beats really rocked indeed, i stayed there for 4 days with performances of Faithless, REM and stuff but believe me, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS WERE THE BEST!!!! Greenday came close with an amazing show and an amazing crowd but the chems where the best, Ed and Tom, Keep up the good work dudes, really, u guys are great, only 18 years old here, so from the moment im old enough, im tracking u guys down and gonna be at every concert, be ready for another stalker lol, just kidding, u'll know in a few years.

I LOVE EM TOO jeannie, and im a guy, so you're not as weird as u think, i really love em, they're like the only group i know that can mix the kind of music they make with good beats and a great build-up. They just FEEL how the make MUSIC. And Snoop wasnt bad, but i feel like that a rapper doesnt belong at werchter. its a rockfestival not rap, he was only rapper and it didnt really fit in my feeling for werchter, but he wasnt that bad. Greetz

P.S. Best show was to Rammstein, they really had a great show, too bad their music sucks lol

Hello peepz, I'm back aswell!!

I had an awesome time my 4 days at Werchter. Got to a friends place today, I was soaking wet from the downpoar I had on my way back home, But I had a good shower, a bath, a sauna, a decent meal and another shower. Now I'm off to bed but I really wanted to see/read what Jeannie did.

And you did excellent!! Jeannie baby, love you to bits. What an awesome review. So alive, so full of emotion. And dear readers, as crazy as she is in her reviews isn't half what she is in real life but you got to love her. I won't do a review. How could I ever top Jeannies??

And Thomas "Die hard" Irish!! What a guy! Came all the way to rainy Belgium for an outdoor Chems gig. 8O And O what did he go crazy when he saw the brothers joining the crowd for the New Order gig.

Tom and Ed. Yes we went a little (understatement!!!) crazy when we saw you join us for the New Order show. But it is so cool that you went to the crowd to see them. And when a gazillion questions popped up in our heads we said: "NO!! If you 2 are so cool to join us for the New Order gig we wont bother you and let you watch the show, and so will we." So in fact we went to a show together!! :D And did you recieve that dirty, wet, sheet? 8)

You did a great show. Highlights: Believe Morning lemon and yes Jeannie is right Surface to air. That track live is my ultimate drug. Great show. But never again make fun of us when we're soaking and you guys get on stage in raincoats!! ;-)

I'm sorry that I didn't see Kraftwerk but Snoop was cool and we got front row seats (stands).

Highlight of the festival for me was Nine Inch Nails. His show was SO HARD, SO full of light. Excellent!!

So that's it. Jeannie did the review, Thomas the setlist.

And an extra thanks go out to my 4 days partners in crime. I had a wicked time with y'all

I know it's pointless, but I have to say that reading all of this is so cool - it's so cool to read about how their gig made you all feel, how the music washed away the torrential downpour and all that was left was the music and the incredible joy felt by those in attendance... This thread makes me so happy!

No she's not. She's insane!!

Anyhoe, in popular demand, my review:

Jeannie, Thomas and me met up in Amsterdam on Wednesday. We had a ball. We went on a boattrip through the Amsterdam channels to show Thomas the city. We checked the recordstores and had a great diner (imo). Jeannie went home, Thomas and I played some pool at the hostel. Best 3 out of 5 but I have no idea who won ;-) .

Thursday we went on the train to Belgium. We listened to some tracks on Thomas' mp3 player. In Leuven we borded the bus to the festival where Jeannie and Thomas and I split up because I had to go to the camping to get rid of my stuff and meet up with my friends who were already there. We later all met up on the festival area where it started to rain immediatly so we ran off to the tent where we waited and drinked (He if the outside is was you have to think about the inside aswell :D ). We decided to go to the mainstage just before 16.00 and stay there to get good places for the Chems. Unfortunatly we missed Kraftwerk because of that. So we saw the Bravery, good, New Order, excellent, we heard Ozark Henry (we had to eat), superb, Snoop Dogg, he's so sharp and then the Chemical Brothers. AMAZING!!!!

During the start of the show there was this unbelievable downpoar. Horrible. And a mosh pit behind us. Awfull. But later in the show, after the fimilar tracks, we weren't bothered by that again. So Morning Lemon/Get Yourself High that combo, WOOHOO great. Also the full heavy beats version of Leave home was amazing. And, although I thought it had it's time, the new version of Block Rockin' Beats was good aswell. Come Inside is a real good live track. You can really see Tom working the buttons (or must I say pushing the buttons?) and get the fullest out if the tune. Ooh my setlist is way of so I refer to Thomas his post for that. I don't get why people are saying they didn't like Star Guitar that much. I think it's a real good pause in the set. And Temptation before it gives it such a rush. And here is my pause aswell.

So Starguitar ended the first part of the set and it went silent from of the stage. A lot of people aplauded. I think they thought the show was over. I also think people don't like Star Guitar that much because it fades into silence. During this pause Tom and Ed showed their respect to the audience, talked a bit, gave each other a little hug and continued the show. Starting of with:

SURFACE TO AIR!! "we'd help ... to make the world a little bit better"

This track live, I don't know how to explain it. It is such a rush, such a high. I mean I'm really out of my mind, I'm way off when I hear that track. This is the point where I close my eyes and raise my hands to the sky. I start moving my body automaticly, not a care in my mind. And at the point where the intermezzo starts, you know that heavy bassline, and live it really is a heavy bassline, the feeling I get in my stomach is like the best thing in the world. It really is soo beautifull, it's love!!

Surface to air fades into EBW6. They tossed the vocals from Hoops which is a real pity, I really liked those vocals being mixed into Surface to air. With the tempo build up and the 3 of us got to the front against the barrier we got our dancing feet going. Especially when Believe came on. Again worth mentioning, they build up Tom and Ed do on that track live is so fricking good. The whole track live is climax, climax, climax. High bleeps and big basses. Can't wait for the Boxer single to be released and spend the rest of my days watching Believe live (untill the live DVD will be released ;-) ). EBW7 is a track where Tom is mad about. He turns into a demonic person twicthing the high pinches to the max. I think the Golden path is a very good closer of the show. And Ed loves it aswell, singing the lyrics just as enthoustiasly as we do. The "encore" was Chemical beats. It is so good that they get out the old tracks again and the work so well with the new. Wether you like them or not you have to say their music is timeless if in a 2005 show Chemical beats works just as well, if not better, as it did in 1995. So no TPPR at Werchter but they played a good 90 minutes and a 15 minute encore of TPPR I think was pushing the time schedule a bit. I wouldn't have mind hearing it and neither would Jeannie and Thomas.

We had a blast!! We waited by the stage for like 15 minutes or so buzzing of the show we just saw (or was it the cold from our wet clothes :? ). We left the venue, had one last drink and gave each other a good hug sharing the experience. It was 4 am when I dove in my tent.

Jeannie, Thomas I said it before but I had a great time with you. Love you. And people: MEET UP!! It is so cool. If there is a gig near you post it on the web and get other people to come with you. Read my review of Cologne where I was withe the Boy with the Golden eyes. Read Whirlys from Coachella. We had such a great time. Boy, I hope you read this when you're back.

Love is all!!!

Oh just to complete my Werchter experience her are the other bands which I saw with a short review.

friday:

Garbage - Good Shirley Manson really enjoyed talking to the audience and showing her arse :D

Velvet Revolver - Slash, Duff these guys are legends. Good rock show although Scott Weiland is a bit over(re)acting

Jamie Cullum - Good, his own stuff he did from his debut album, playing the piano by stamping on it. Didn't like the covers.

Green Day - That's not my thing. It was ok.

Faithless - Didn't like them the first time I saw them 7 years ago. Now I have to say they are a great festival band.

saturday:

Bloc Party - Love their album but I have to say live it doesn't work that well for me

Audioslave - Again legends imo. While most of the people went crazy of their old band material (Spoonman - Soundgarden, Bulls on parade, sleep now in the fire, Killing in the name - Rage against the Machine) for me it was the last track Cochise!!

Interpol - Didn't like their album but live it sounded so good

Nine Inch Nails - Highlight of the festival. A great, great performance. I even think he cried at a certain moment.

Rammstein - What can I say. It's a show with fireworks and explosines.

sunday:

Kane - Don't like them that much but a good poprock performance

Keane - I don't see them as a festival act. They are to intimate for that. And the fucked up Bedshape which is the song I really like.

Sarah Bettens - She's from Belgium so she had a huge response although her K Choise work was better imo.

Soulwax - Really love them but they don't work at a festival. The sound wasn't that good as well. What really was cool is that Nancy Wang joined the band to do the vocals on NY excuse which is my favourite of their last album. Extra info; she's the girlfriend of the singer.

Queens of the stoneage - Heard them from a distance (again I had to eat) they opened with Go with the flow which I find the highlight of their performance.

Foo Fighters - OK they rock. And Dave Grohl is mad!!

R.E.M. - very good. Good lightshow aswell, very suiting with the music.

So that's it. 1 funny extra thing I like to share with you. The Game performend aswell (I didn't see him). But I read the next day in a newspaper that he drank 2 bottles of champagne and a bottle of whiskey before he went onstage, he dissed the audience and then left after 20 minutes. I don't think we'll ever see him again at a festival.

And when I left Werchter is was raining as hell again so I arrived at a friends place soaking. Even my boxer and my shoes where soaking. And the rain destroyed my phone. Does someone have the adress of the weatherman??

I hope you enjoyed readin my long reviews. I'll keep it a bit shorter the next time!! :D

Hai and welcome. Werchter_Fan, if you enjoyed the show half as much as I did you must have had an amazing time.

But please read this line you wrote:

The Game was there as well and so was 't hof van Commerce a belgium rap act. And do you clasify the Chemical Brothers as rock!?

The cool thing about a festival like Werchter, or Glastonbury or Lowlands, is that they DO book other bands than rock bands. That way you get to know a wider range of music which is a good thing.

WOW! You had the same experience I did when I heard this song live! I know that heavy bassline, it just pulsated through my entire body. The whole song just took control of my senses. When I opened my eyes, I didn't even realize they were closed and I had no idea for how long - it was like I folded space! I only knew it to be a special moment - it was so great!

I cannot stress meeting up at a gig enough. It's good times. A Chemical Brothers gig is always special, there's always people in the audience who are into it as much as you - but for me I enjoy the music that much more when I am in the company of friends - it makes the experience that much more potent. At other gigs, 'stash and I met up with people from the old mailing list and I was new to the whole "internet meet up" so I was a little nervous kind of... but it turned out to be such an awesome time, and such a great new way to experience a concert! When 'stash and I met up with Electronic Battle Warrior and Darkstarexodus... it was just so cool to be with them and have that shared experience of not only te gig, but the whle weekend. It's awesome to be with people who you know are on the same wavelength as you, it brings everything to a whole new level...

i know that the game and 'thof van Commerce was there, but 't hof van commerce wasnt planned as came because another group had to do the live 8 stuff. And the game, i missed it unfortunately. Still i believe Snoop didnt belong there at that time. anyways, im sure i had as much fun as u did, believe me, i was there for 4 full days, and missed only few main stage groups. We should be like minded and say that ROCK WERCHTER 2005 ROCKED lol, UP TO ROCK WERCHTER 2006 :D :D :D

Cool pictures!! 8) Thanks so much for posting these.

Great one of Ed looking right at ya! I had to do a double take for Tom, I skimmed right over him at first - I swear it would be difficult for me to spot these 2 in a crowd, they just blend right in!
