Finally got Empire (the CD/DVD version) and the majority of the lyrics are sounding too obvious and generic for me right now. I like this version better:

I've been browsing the Kasabian forums and here is what a couple of posts have to say (it's Chemical related, so there you go! :P )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've heard the album in full, having reviewed it for a monthly magazine, and some of it is better than the first album, other bits only as good, but you have to hand it to the band for trying something new and not just doing a repeat performance. The drumming is better, there's a distinct Chemical Brothers feel to it, and yet they push in a variety of new directions (British Legion the most obvious, but also Shoot The Runner, Empire itself). It sounds like they're testing their own limits, which has to be a good thing. They could so easily rest on their laurels. But they don't. Also, The Stuntman, Empire and By My Side are among the best songs they've ever recorded, if you ask me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree whole-heartedly with what you say, especially about the Chemical Brothers bit, Sun/Rise/Light/Flies and Let Forever Be have a very similar sound.

I haven't been reading up any music mags lately (the one downside to not working at Tower) but apparently Kasabian themselves are touting Empire to be as good as Oasis' Definitely Maybe which seems to have irritated many in the Kasabian camp - and it could be because Oasis took Kasabian under their wing and thus Kasabian hold Noel Gallagher in the highest regard... which is OK, there's nothing wrong with being positively influenced by someone you admire. Actually it's kind of interesting sifting through these threads on the Kasabian forum, it seems buzzing with activity because of the new album and there's plenty of viewpoints and banter about things here and there going around.

It also seems that the Kasabian camp is either loving the album and applauding the new direction it's going, or people are still sitting on the fence and giving themselves time to warm up to it.

For what it's worth...
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

I saw the video for 'Empire' a few days ago - it blew me away, the end is so powerful. You've gotta see it if you get the chance

Fantastic song too

I've gotta be honest i was completely dissapointed with this album, all the hype which was coming from the band themselfs (seem to be taking a leaf out of oasis's book there hyping shit albums) but the album is just full of filler. There were only four songs on there i liked, stuntman in particular was very good the rest were very uninteresting the first album is a lot better i think. Don't forget opinions and all X-D

They open too many tracks by singing the title of the track. It makes me cringe.
